Hi

Last night I had a call from a friend on my iPhone that was dropped after 1 minute (the connection not the phone!).

Since then, all I get is 'No Service' or 'Searching'.

Everything works fine on wifi but no Vodafone 3G.

I have done a hard reset, done a full restore, taken out the SIM card and cleaned the contacts - all to no avail. I am a bit out of ideas now.

Does anyone know why it might have done this and what I might do to fix it?

Try a different sim card to see if the phone still picks up a signal else ring vodafone and enquire about your mobile account.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Sadly mine is the only iPhone available and my wife's Nokia has a different kind of SIM.

The account is fine. Vodafone said take it to a store - great. Only 100km trip to do that...!

Issue might not be the phone get $2 Micro SIM adapter and try it in the Nokia handset

Check the IMEI of the handset has not been blacklisted with customer service,

You could also try locking the handset to GSM only as well does it pick up the 2G network

Sadly it still says 'No Service'.

My wife's Nokia is also VF and shows plenty of signal, so clearly it is a phone/SIM card issue of some sort.

I've had a similar issue with my 3GS. It usually drops service after hitting a low reception area and then struggles to 'find' the network again.

For me, it's worked just turning the phone off and on again - this seems to make sure it can 'see' the network,

Very annoying though and hope you find the cause of your issue.

Thanks.

There's a small VF store (very small!) in Masterton, which I will try and get to on Monday (no Sunday hours there!) but of they can't do the SIM thing I will let you know.

Latest update:

I took it to the VF store and we tried a different SIM with the same result. Also put my SIM in a different handset and it worked fine.

Upshot is the phone is off to Apple (again - already been back once for something else) and we will see what happens. We all thought it should be under warranty but there seemed a suggestion of confusion on the subject which will no doubt resolve itself one way or another.

The shop manager said that worse case is that if it is out of warranty and has to be replaced, the maximum bill I will get is $360 for the replacement. Best case is no cost of course.

The shop lent me a phone too; can't do email etc on it but at least I can make and receive calls and texts. Will be ringing VF tomorrow to cancel the additional 1Gb of mobile data as I certainly won't be using that this month!

Thinking about it I note that I have yet to have an iPhone that did not need at least one warranty repair and I have had 3 of them!

Hi

Just to update, the phone went back on Monday last and on Friday a replacement under warranty had been delivered.

Nice job, VF!
