sdav: Does anyone know if Apple are going to sacrifice some features on the 5C that will impact iOS 7 features?

the 5c is a rumor it may turn out to be true but I don't understand why they would create such a device, they sell their older devices 4 and 4s in that $5-800 range so they would only be competing against them selves. Once the next new iPhone comes out then the 5 will drop down in price so the 5c would be competing with the 4s, so unless they are going to discontinue the 4and 4s at the same time I don't see the point

I got an email from dx.com advertising the latest range of iphone 5c cases. I guess an iphone 5c is a reality.

As for the question of why compete against the 4 and 4s? The 5c may be cheaper to produce and it sounds newer. It would encourage 4 users to shift to the 5c whereas they probably wouldn't move to a 4s

I have always read that the 5C was for Asian markets. If it is for everyone, I am sure Apple will set pricing to give a range from high to medium. It isnt a big deal if the 5C competes with the 4 or 4S, they still get a margin, the key IMO is attracting new users to the ecosystem. Margin is one thing but ongoing purchases in Appstore, iTunes and future phone upgrades is what they are looking for. Next year will clearly be the 4.7, then they will have a 100% offering, with 4 and 4 and 4,7 screen and a small but complete range of phones, all my opinion off course

I have a 4 right now and with iOS7 coming along I feel if the 5c offers the same power it might tempt me at the right price if the 4 is gimped too much - otherwise I will just wait for the 6. I wonder what the differences will be because it is hard to imagine the case materials being $300-$400 different?

I think I agree. With what you suggest Apple will have a nice range of high end phones (they will never go mid range to low end imo) and open their app store to more people, crucially the Asian market.

There's no reason why the ip5 couldn't go the way of the ipad3 in having a relatively short rein, that would make way for the i4s to be the new budget model, then the 5c (replacing the 5) and the 5s coming in as the crowning glory?

IMO the 4 is mid range, the 4S is upper mod. The 5C should be mid to upper mid, maybe sit in between the 4 and 4S

For the first time ever Apple is expected to break pattern and release a cheaper iPhone model dubbed iPhone 5C.
It is rumored to pack the same internals as the current iPhone 5, but switch from aluminum to plastic body. The iPhone 5C will reportedly replace the iPhone 5 on the market.

Both the 4 & 4s will be ditched to make way for lightning connector only?

I guess the 4 is now, but only because of time. I meant Apple will never release a new mid ranged phone.

I think quite a few people are overlooking the importance of this.

Despite the 5C or whatever it will be called being similar in specs to either the 5 or the 4S, it will crucially have the lightning connector, which (once the iPad 2 is finally ditched), will unify the family from iPods to iPads and iPhones.
Of course this assumes that the 4 & 4S will be ditched at the launch of the new models.

Am I the only one getting sick of people leaking information on unreleased products? It ruins the surprise.

I predict the iphone 5s will be a disaster for apple (assuming what i've heard is correct).

It is the iphone 5 + gimmicks + extra cpu power.

A whole year of waiting for this? Blah!!!

Jobsie would be disgusted at the lack of innovation.

But, in saying that, maybe i will upgrade because my iphone 4 home button is crapping out. That is the only reason, not because the iphone 5s is that much better.

There's an intyeresting article on ZDNet that I just read which effectively spells out that if Apple don't innovate soon, they'll more-or-less become also-rans.

In saying that it does say that Apple are not afraid to make a product obsolete by releasing a new one - such as the iPad vs Macbook Air, iPhone vs iPod etc, so maybe we'll see the NEXT BIG THING...just not tomorrow.

i doubt it.

<insert phone here> +gimmicks +extra cpu power basically describes every new flagship phone from most mobile device companies this year. S4 anyone?

There will be a host of people who were going to buy an iphone 5 but held out to get a slightly faster model...

Agree.

For the last couple of months before an announcement, sales tank...because upgraders wait for the next big thing...even if it's not that much of a step up.
