Can't answer that until pricing is announced. Last time I bought one, Telecom offered a $400 subsidy on the cheapest plan so I'll wait and see what happens this time.

I guess, considering the title of this thread, that your cheque for a million dollars is on its way to Mauricio. :-)

Although it has yet to be seen what sort of volume of product will be shipped to NZ.

If I remember correctly, The 5 was in very tight supply, and for a good number of weeks was only available to those on contract.

But I guess we will find out in 2 weeks time

And just so people know how badly gouged NZ is being on the pricing (Not that this is anything new):

Obviously, US prices exclude sales tax and NZ prices include it.

I paid 1349 for my 4, 4S and 5. Clearly the exchange rate hasnt moved over this period.....

So add GST to the converted price, this reduces the "gouging" to about 15%

For that you get to live in a country with a public health care system and minimum wages that remove the requirement to add a 15-20% tip when you go out for dinner, ..... I can live with that.....

Apple just has fixed pricing and pays little to no attention to changes in exchange rate.

The rate hasn't moved a great deal in the past 2 years (80c +/- 5c). The last-worst figure was when it was around the 70c mark back in mid-2010 (roughly when the 4 was released).

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable marketing explanation.

Well that got political quickly, was just making a point. The healthcare system doesn't enter into the equation for tourists who may wish to stash a phone or two into their luggage.

FWIW Canadian prices work out to be only around 5% less gougy relative to NZ.

Pity poor France though who pay about 10% more that we do as well.

I calculate the price difference as 8% extra here in nz (for the 16gb 5s), assuming I am a business and can claim back GST.

Doesn't seem too radical.
