That must be infuriating LH! Still, hard to complain as on the whole that seems like a pretty quick turnaround. I went shopping for a 64gb cell in Welly but no luck (doesn't sound like the stores/chains I called received this model unless they'd already sold out) and as they couldn't give me an ETA on new stock, getting it next week (or earlier if your story is anything to go by) sounds good.

It is a little frustrating - they've had it since early this morning but didn't deliver it at all. I don't think it even got into a delivery van until after 1pm. But, yeah, will still arrive before Apple said, so can't really gripe about it. I think you'd get yours on Monday, but keep an eye on your tracking page at TNT, it might come sooner. I think the Apple estimate is usually pretty conservative.

It has arrived! I haven't fired it up beyond the welcome screen, but there doesn't appear to be a tint issue. It's VERY light. I look forward to putting it through its paces tonight.

First impressions... I really like it. It's amazing how the slightly narrower body makes it look so different - it didn't seem much on paper but I guess the thinner bezel gives an optical illusion of being taller and narrower than it actually is. Still can't get over the weight difference. I've got it in a padded sleeve at the moment (until my Joy Factory sleep/wake case arrives) and a couple of times I've had to check to make sure it's in there, because it felt too light. I've traded up from a 3, and the speed difference is noticeable. Apps open almost immediately and everything I've run so far is very smooth. I've not noticed any tint issues with the display. Battery life seems to be about the same as the 3 before iOS7 was installed, but I've not done any specific testing. I have things like the auto-update and the parallax effect turned off in order to preserve some power. I got the free downloads of iWork and iLife apps without any problem, and was then able to install them free on my other devices (my old 1st gen offered me an older version for free in order to be compatible with the device). I ran a speed test on the Air & the 3 on my VDSL wireless network and got virtually identical results.

My only (small) gripes are that the back is very smooth and slippery and it keeps sliding out of my hand or off my lap. I can't wait for my case to come - it's definitely not designed to be used uncovered. The beautiful thinness has the flip-side of making it feel a little vulnerable. Also I have one game (Tunnel Town) that, for some odd reason, is displaying really weirdly. The main part of the game is fine, but if you call up the food list, or click on rabbit to see their level/energy bar, the pop-up graphics are so tiny you can hardly read them. I'm yet to discover if there's some setting I need to tweak to sort that out.

So, that's my layman's opinion after a day's intermittent use. I'm very happy with my purchase. As is my son with his hand-me-down 3rd gen :o)

Having had mine for almost a week now I can say it is a nice upgrade over the iPad 3. I appreciate the smaller size and reduced rate, as well as the increase in speed. Other than those three things, nothing much else has changed from my point of view (at this stage at least).

I've not experienced any of the screen issues being reported in the US, although I wonder just how real these issues are vs people trying to find fault with every new release. The only anomaly I have come across is a particular page on the Australian Gizmodo site kept crashing Safari. Only that page though.

Overall I am very happy I upgraded.

Yes, I'm loving the speed increase. But coming from the iPad 2, its the Retina display that is really wowing me at the moment. Like you, no issues with our screen. And the only issue I've experienced is Safari crashing from time to time.

This is an increasing trend I'm finding with Apple software across all their products, sadly. Their hardware build quality doesn't seem to be suffering the same drop in quality though, and software bugs can be fixed.

Has anyone heard of anyone else in NZ experiencing problems with the screen?

I don't want to buy one until it seems unlikely NZ-sourced iPads suffer from the same problems (if real!); while I know it'll be covered by warranty, I'd rather not have to deal with that hassle (unlike someone in the US, who I read returned a number in the double digits before finding one to his satisfaction).

As for pricing - I had it confirmed that Expert Infotech had made a booboo; price was supposed to be $1245 versus the advertised $1045.

Which raises the question: why would anyone purchase a parallel imported model to save $4? (For those ordering online, the cheapest is Apple given they don't charge for delivery).

Speaking of which - is Warehouse Stationery's stock NZ-sourced? I'm assuming it was on the basis that Noel Leeming sells NZ-sourced stock, so thought a sister company selling parallel-imported product may be a bit tricky. But is this an erronous assumption?

From my previous experiences with them, I don't know why anyone would purchase anything from Expert Infotech.  On two out of two occasions, I've had very bad experiences with them as both products I purchased developed faults.  I guess had I not had to go through the RMA process then I wouldn't know just how bad they are (or were with me at least) at  providing service.

Regarding the iPad Air screen, I've not seen anyone in NZ reporting issues with the screen.  This sort of info seems to travel quickly if faults are discovered.

None in my circle. I've seen two since Friday (one silver and one space grey) and both were fine. I don't know offhand if anyone else in my group has got one, but if anyone did and they had a problem with it, I'd have expected to hear about it.

My one should be arriving tomorrow. I ordered it online this morning from Apple and despite the claim of 5-10 days before it would ship, I got the shipment notice this afternoon. That said to expect delivery on Thursday, but now that the TNT tracker has caught up I see it is coming from Sydney and should be delivered tomorrow. I'm upgrading from an iPad 2, so this will be a big jump. I'll need to get a 4G SIM, just in time for Telecom switching on their network.

My iPad Air has arrived (nine days earlier than Apple's earliest estimate in the order confirmation!), so make that three iPad Airs I've seen with no display issues. Wow, this is fast compared to my iPad 2. No luck getting Telecom's 4G/LTE network to talk to me yet, but 3G is working fine.

On a related matter: the iPad Mini with Retina Display is now available for order from Apple's online store.

Mine is definitely on the way.

Just as when I was going to pick up iPad Air to take advantage of Noel Leeming's 4x flybys offer.

You mean that yours has gone past the point of not being able to cancel the order.  Preparing for shipment and actually have been shipped are two different things :-(

A friend's early order for a Retina iPad Mini went through the same "Preparing for shipment" about 10 pm Wednesday our time, then shipped about 4 am Thursday our time, clearly from China (five hour time difference, late Wednesday evening there). My last order which shipped from China in their evening made it to me in Wellington three days later. Auckland might manage two days if the customs clearance is quick. That suggests the first deliveries should arrive on Friday, Saturday (if TNT does weekend deliveries) or Monday.
