Totally computer illiterate person at work has an iphone 5, and gave it to their neice to play with. When they got it back they had put ios7 on it and the person doesn't like the phone anymore.

Is there a simple way that it can be rolled back? If the answer is no, thats fine, I will tell them no, but if its easy enough then I will do it for them. Its synced to itunes on the work computer because they dont actually have one so if it needs itunes I can do that easily enough.

I believe the answer is no.

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

The only way back is by jailbreaking but then that defeats the purpose of using IOS.

Shame really.

As joker97 said the answer is now no unfortunately as Apple have stopped signing iOS6.
They usually keep the old version going for a few weeks, after a new version is released, so it is possible to roll back to an old version.
However iOS7 has been out now for over a month so no more going back once you've upgraded.

He dislikes it that much?! At some point it will be extremely hard to find old iOS devices.

Not only that, eventually the apps that they want use will only work in iOS7.

WHy don't they like it, it is basically the same OS, just a bit of a facelift. ios7 is the only way they will het life out of their phone anyway, as older versions will stop being supported, so in a year or two, they won't be able to download many apps for it.

I suspect that she is looking for a reason to sell it and get a S4 like all her friends have, but I thought I would ask.

About the only thing it gets used for is making calls and uploading pictures of children and dogs to facebook.

I have an iphone5 still running ios6. My teenage son is using it and under strict instructions not to update to IOS7. I really dislike it! I reckon will be worth it's weight in gold very soon.

Many also disliked iOS7 but thats easily fixed.

Change the wallpaper, using Still and different colors, that helps the clarity of the app labels. Make the text bold, thats further helps. Turn on Reduce Motion to remove parallax. Latter two are under Accessibility. Now its sweet.

May I suggest saving the SHSH blobs so if it is "accidentally" updated then you can stitch them into the correct iOS6 version to downgrade?

I agree, ios 7 is not a great upgrade and it is a shame apple can pour so much resource into such a blah upgrade. ios7 seems to be more cpu heavy too and turned our iphone 4 from a slick little operator into a big fat slug.

The only useful feature in ios7 (for me), is the swipe up for basic control settings -- although, why didn't they include a personal hotspot toggle?

In some cases , io7 has worsened functionality -- such as 'subfolders' only displaying 9 items per page, down from 16 i think.

So, I understand people who wish to downgrade.

I thought you could plug the phone into iTunes and restore from a previous backup?
I'm going to try this soon, I like ios7 but geniusgo has become even less stable (if that's possible) and I can't wait for it to be fixed. Also it will be nice to have a fast phone again

Unfortunately the backups only contain "data", not the actual OS.
