Aloha:And one more thing from me: Remember Motorola's RAZR? Was a big hype, uh? They sold millions and millions. Everybody loved it everybody wanted it. 2G only, yeah. And then the 3G version was just not the same and the whole phone become some kind of boring after all.

If Apple will not be able to cope with the fast changing technology in the telecom sector (2G, 3G, HSDPA, LTE, 4G...) and come up later with something new, new design, etc then the iPhone will have a similar lifecycle than the RAZR.

The 3G RAZR came a long time after the 2G RAZR, and origionaly the RAZR was very expensive, but within months it was for very cheap, or free with contract.  It was a very "in" style of phone at that point, Motorola just milked it waaay too much, releasing inifinite versions and colours with little hardware change, flooding the market.  Now everyother manufacturer has a "Thin" lineup of phones matching the RAZR, so there is no reason to buy a RAZR anymore over anything else.

Apple is a little better at keeping on top of things than Motorola, They do not have a iPhone on every carrier and Colour like the RAZR.  That should help with the supply vs demand.  Hopefully they will always be evolving their design a little how the iPod has progressed.

Unlike Motorola, Apple is usualy able to keep infront of the game, and not let other other players use Apples designs to their advantage(PATENT, PATENT, PATENT)

to sciascia: it means if you open a topic today on GZ and you'll write "iPhone probably will be sold in NZ by the Mad Butcher in 2008" it will be in the NZHerald tomorrow. Speculations, huh?

Patent? So you think nobody will copy the iPhone? The touchscreen? The user interface? Or the full front screen without keypad? Or the accelerometer? Look around.

Aloha, that's the least compelling article i've ever seen on lack of innovation at Apple.

Apple are an innovative company. Feature innovation is only one part of the picture. Just because someone brings a product to market first, doesn't mean they didn't copy it from elsewhere ;-)

At least it's fun to spend time doing customization of menus. I modified the mobilephone services to handle prepaid T-Mobile (US) and Vodafone (NZ) accounts: http://www.certsoft.com/mobileservices.png

So as of this morning fw version 1.1.1 for both the iPod Touch, and the iPhone has now publicly been jailbroken, using an exploit in TIFF image handling.

http://www.toc2rta.com/

This means 3rd party apps can be installed again on the iPhone, and now on the iPod Touch.

Those lucky enough to have purchased a TurboSIM, will also be able to use the iPhone as a phone :-). Those who have used anySIM or iUnlock, are SOL for now (The situation doesn't look too rosy for them either, seems as though the baseband nvram is FUBAR for now).

I suppose another option, and I know some guys doing it, is keep it on the AT&T contract and roam to nz.... but calls are in the region of $1.99 to $2.99 USD a minute.
