There's a new app in the AppStore which essentially allows you to have visual voice mail.
https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/touch-voicemail/id829418460?mt=8

Has anyone had any use of this?

I'd be interested in using it, but the monthly charges put me off. I was really hoping for a one off type payment, or it not be so expensive at least. I don't think I use my VM enough to justify the ~$3 a month.

What makes you say that?
All it is doing is leveraging call forwarding. You pay for the calls to be forwarded, which differs on your mobile plan.
This is a completely independent product.

Hmm this answers my main annoyance with Voicemail so dropped money and bought its pro version. Seems to be pretty promising so far and appears to just create a call forward to them instead of your carriers VM.

I know - we'll soon see how safe it is when I find out how it is logging in to get the messages :)

Thing is... Why couldn't any of the big 3 have made an app like this for themselves? Would have been a unique selling point I would have thought and they could charge for it too?

Because that would make customers happy? You can't have that...

You can do something like this yourself with a 2talk 028 number to divert to.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Yes. and then they send you an email with the .Wav file, the time details, and the number of the person who called. Great.. only costs the price of forwarding the call to the 2Talk number!

Any less safe than leaving my VM with Vodafone? (and proof, please? Otherwise it's just hearsay.)

michaelmurfy: I know - we'll soon see how safe it is when I find out how it is logging in to get the messages :)

It doesn't log in, it forward the call to their service, completely cutting out Vodafone's VM portal.

Completely agree. Would be a good selling point, to be honest.

I'm still not entirely sure why Telco's charge for VM access to begin with... but thats another story.

Looks great and I would love to use it, but can't (on prepay). What would be the reason for the service not to work on prepay?
