Hi guys,

So i got sent an iphone 5 from my cousin in the US. It is locked to Verizon.
Is it possible to ever use this phone in nz? I dont mind paying to get the sim unlocked if that is the issue.

Anyone know?

Have you tried it with a local SIM?  Some phones came locked to US carriers only, but would work with overseas SIM cards.

I tried VF, 2D and TC and got nothing. I did a search on A1428 and that appears to be AT&T, not Verizon.

According to this, it's a GSM phone, but doesn't support all the bands used in NZ, specifically with LTE

There are companies around that will unlock, or check the AT&T website. Even if you get it unlocked, it will only work on some NZ bands, so coverage across all mobile providers and bands will be patchy.

I would just call Verizon and talk to them about unlocking.  If they say it's not one of theirs, then try AT&T (who I understand are less helpful about unlocking).

You might have to jailbreak the phone, but I would recommend exhausting the legit channels first.

Verizon's iPhone 5/5c/5s are not locked. If it's giving you the "not a supported carrier" error then it's not a Verizon phone.
