this and all the other Smart watches leave me cold, they are ugly and look like updated Casio Digital watches from days gone by

Watched a quick demo on MacRumours. Seemed very capable.

I flicked over a couple of Pebble video reviews out of curiousity. Pebble seemed okay. A nice functional device.

Will probably get an Apple Watch at some point in the future.

Interesting that the look of the watch is the most important thing here. Considering we are geeks and all?!

Ill be getting one, dont know why people are saying that apple are innovative anymore? Im sure this smart watch beats the android wear watches especially samsung have been trying so hard but none of them have been good, maybe moto360 still looks the best, but function wise I think apple wins

Indeed!

After the iPhone debacle I'm a lot more sceptical of geek opinions when it comes to mass market/consumer devices.

Mind you, I should know better. The geek driven GUIs I've worked on in the past are just horrible.

Under Jobs, apple led. Under Cook, they have well and truly been relegated to follower. The glory days are officially over - everyone forgave them for the 5s disappointment last year as we hoped they were biding time for the 2014 innovation bombshell. Well, we don't have it. No new innovation with either phone 6 or the watch that competitors haven't already released. Watch in particular falls well short of 2+ years of hype.

I must say I am hugely disappointed by the design of this. I was hoping for something that was beautiful to look at. Instead we get an iPod mini with a winder and a strap! I still haven't seen anything in the smartwatch sphere that I want to be seen wearing more than my 18 year old Citizen Navihawk.
I'm sure it will be great in operation and enhance the whole iOS experience, but I can't help but think that maybe Jonny Ive was away the week this was designed.

I've got a Pebble Steel - it works very well.

Best thing - the week-long battery life.

This is the main thing these smartwatches lack, and Apple not really quoting battery life really says it all - you'll be charging your watch every night which leaves me to the other really cool feature of the Pebble - the week-long battery life + vibrating alarm. My partner gets less-pissed off with me every morning because of it.

Just looks like a feminine watch, and other companies have already come out with nicer looking watches. In this case apple are playing catch up.  I am sure apple strategically leak the leaked photos of their iPhones for free advertising, because what was announced was already widely known, so there weren't any surprises with any of it.

I couldn't disagree more. None of the other smart watches I've looked at has transcended the plasticky, 'university design student' look properly (with the possible exception of the Pebble Steel). This watch is beautiful, functional, and will keep my phone in my pocket or handbag, instead of making me fumble for it every time I have an alert. The smaller form factor is perfect for me, looks amazing and has enough watch strap options to satisfy my girly need for pretty things. To boot it has the sapphire watchface making it virtually scratchproof and yeah, I'm pretty much sold.

Add this to the 6+ on my wishlist, and my Android tablet will be gathering dust.

Cool.

Yes, it's interesting there was no mention of battery of life.

Tbh, I don't know if battery life is a deal breaker for me like it is for you.
People made a huge deal about it when the first iPhone came out (actually, it was mainly geeks IIRC). Personally, I think it's a non-issue.

Yeah not cheap and I don't think this is a device I could get work to pay for :)

I actually like the look of the watch.

I would go for the stainless with the stainless link bracelet.

Will I use if with even half of the functions? No

Would it need at least a 2 day battery life to be useful? Yes

Did I notice no reference to the battery life in the keynote speech? Yes
