My iphone 6 suffered quite a small knock and the display cracked. It's not too bad and is a small crack rather than the 'shatter' type damage.

I checked the apple website for details and in the USA they fix the screen for $109USD (or $79 if you have applecare)  ( https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/screen-damage/ )

But, on ringing my local apple service agent said apple nz do not fix broken screens. You basically must buy a new phone.

So, if your iphone 6 screen suffers any damage at all then apple nz will not fix as it is too hard.

I wonder why apple US can do it and not apple NZ. In the US you can take the phone into the apple store and they have an onsite tech who repairs it right away.

Looks like a trip to the insurance company.

Check what the excess is, and if the premium will increase, just to get a handle on the real cost to repair via insurance.

Bedroom iPhone repairers seem to be everywhere, my daughters have had good experiences from them, may be worth tracking a couple down to see what they say and cost.
How to find one? Maybe ask the asian case sellers that are often in malls, if in ChCh I can locate details.

iPhone 6 screens are still very expensive but they dropped by 25% last month alone and will likely fall more after Chinese New Year - we're charging $280 for repairing them at the moment I would imagine repairers in CHCH are about the same.

Out of warranty replacement from apple is over $400.

Does touch ID still work when you replace the screen, or do you take the button part off the old screen?

Interesting.

When you say out of warranty replacement is over $400, this is is not apple nz right? My apple service agent said that  Apple NZ do not repair iphone 6 screens at all. I find this hard to believe though , I might go direct to apple and ask them , maybe they have a mail-in service.

Either way, I'd say my insurance excess @ $150 is the best way to go. If i can get around to it, the screen damage is relatively minor.

Be aware that if you get it repaired at a place that is not an Apple Authorised Service Provider then you void any warranty you have left on the iPhone.

If it is just one small crack then Apple may replace under warranty.
Have you called Apple directly and spoken them about it?

Ring Apple, they will offer you a repair exchange phone (referb) but will not actually fix your old phone and give it back to you. The cost as mentioned above is around $400.

Sensor gets swapped from the old screen works fine as long as it has not been damaged.
