Finding I'm pressing the home button a lot on iphone6, and worried will wear it out.

On ipad with ios5 I use 4 fingers on screen and close towards my thumb and applic closes, this doesn't seem to work on iphone how ever.

I've turned on assistive touch, which puts a transparent home button on screen, but it would be less messy if there was a gesture that could do it,

Thanks.

Simple answer - no there is no easy way but you also don't need to as apps don't really run in the background. If people looked at the open apps on my iPhone 5s they'll likely cringe, put the phone down and step away slowly but it works absolutly no problems, just close apps if they stop responding.

If I've got an applic running, how do I get to a different applic without the home button.

I'm changing to different applics all the time witch means I can be pressing the home button over 30 times a day.

As far as I can tell the home button is the only way to get to home screen to select different applic to run, even if put phone to sleep it still comes up with last applic running on it.

Home button time ;) It should be fine, I do app switching all the time but Apple "say" they've fixed the whole home button breaking issue since the iPhone 5, I wouldn't worry about it and if it does occur you've got the CGA on your side for a free repair.

Don't let a button hinder how you use your phone, use it any way you want and don't worry about it breaking :)

Thanks for that. Guess it's up to apple to make sure the button lasts,

I try and not worry about it, they have taken away a useful gesture though in ios8.

All my previous iOS devices, it is the power button that wears out first before the home button

Assistive touch is the easiest way as you've already tried, but if you're willing to jailbreak you can use gestures to do just about anything on your phone, thanks to a tweak called Activator.
