The Pro appeals to me as a photographer as an editing tool in conjunction with the stylus, as well as a weight saving over my existing MBP.

What I cannot determine is whether you can connect any form of external storage to it, such as Thunderbolt drives etc..

Is there a way to do that?

LOL, no its not, its a tablet running a tablet OS,but I know what you mean

Its just a larger iPad. aside from the pencil its an exactly larger iPad Air 2.

What you can do on the iPad will be nicer on the larger screen, split view especially.

What you cannot do in iOS is very compatible with what you cannot do on the iPad Pro.

So, I take it for what it is, a great read/watch/play device. aka consumption

Add a decent keyboard such as the Logitech one, then the size and weight means you may as well take a real computer.

Wireless storage would only work if there are reasonably fast ways to do this. I know there are some drives that can do wireless transfers - is that the sort of thing?

There is no doubt that the much improved processor and screen etc will make it a challenger for a MBP for certain uses. The lack of precision editing ability has always been the main reason I have avoided the iPad line but with the new pencil thing that objection ceases to be.

Having investigated comprehensively I have come to the regrettable conclusion that, as a photographer, the iPP is not Pro at all - it's just a bigger iPad.

To replace my laptop I will have to use a Surface 4. It appears that this is not as hard as it used to be, as there are iCloud and iTunes apps available for it so my calendars, documents etc will port.

Was reading interviews with software developers saying that they are unlikely to be building apps for the iPad Pro as consumers don't tend to pay real money for apps on iOS - and I don't believe they can offer demos? So you are unlikely to get a lot of decent desktop grade software on there.

End of the day it is a large, very expensive iPad. As you have found there are better tools out there.

Yep. I said that on an Apple forum I am a member of, cut down by what are nice people, but Apple Defence Force members

I like my Apple gear but its a pity a great device, that works great, can be unsuitable for some basic tasks. OP, I'd  just take your existing laptop.

So would I if I did not want to use a stylus on the screen.
