I've got my wife's old i-phone 4 (she has upgraded)

and until the other day I was getting a click sound every time I pressed a letter to send a text, but now that has stopped

also when I send / receive texts no sound comes out... I checked under settings / sounds and there are sounds there but nothing comes out of the i-phone

I've also just tried to play a song from my playlist and no sound is coming out..... have I done something wrong or is the speaker stuffed in the i-phone?

Is there something I can try to get it working??

I'm an i-phone novice so any help would be appreciated!

Do the headphones work? Perhaps clean out the headphone jack, it can get full of crap.

Otherwise a factory reset. Failing that I would suspect a hardware issue.

Do you have bluetooth headphones or an Apple TV in the house? It could be that it is sending the audio to one of these instead.

well I just tried phoning my mobile phone from my work landline and the i-phone rang loudly with the selected ring tone, so obviously the speaker is working ok

I checked the 'do not disturb' and that is switched off, so maybe I've done something in the settings?

it's weird....

My wife's 4S does something similar at random intervals...just turns itself on silent mode - although nothing we have done actually can take it out of this, except (as you have found) a restart.

Time to move on from the 4/4S I rekon :)
