Nice to see Apple testing the updates to the iPad 2, you would've thought after the 'Slide to Update' bug updating to iOS9 direct from iOS7 they might have dedicated a couple more resources in this area.

I may be wrong but wasn't there something like 8 beta versions of 9.3 including public beta surely this must have shown up

I had a similar thing happen to my Air a few updates back. I make a policy of always backing up all our devices (4 iPads and 2 iPhones) to iTunes on my Mac before I run an update - it was the only thing that saved me that time. I had to connect to iTunes and reset to factory settings and then restore from backup. I hope you find a solution.

I suspect that many people testing it wouldn't have been using an ipad that old. But surprised if it didn't also affect the mini, as it is supposed to be the same specs as the ipad 2.

Looks like it is a problem with their activation server which they are working on, so I will probably just wait until they fix with, rather than try the restore process. Not a great week PR wise for apple, especially after the weak new product releases.

Weak yes, but I see it. getting revenue from a 4" phone, the iPad Pro 9.7 is sweet. Tempted. Its a new ball game now, revenue harder to find. Smartphones are becoming ubiquitous.

Only affecting the 3g version according to reports. Also apparently they pulled the update for 2 users so it maybe a new version.

Apparently fairly common, story here. Apple will likely work out how to fix it, but it looks like you can restore from backup if you have one.

An updated update has just been released which fixes this issue.

On a side note can you imagine any other platform pushing out a fix so quick. Over Easter weekend to!

Admittedly it shouldn't have been released but still. Swift quick response.

If only that was the case, but they haven't fixed it for people who have already bricked their devices. The activation still fails. I presume it only covers those people who have yet to update, they won't face the same problem. I wonder what those people who don't have a PC with itunes are supposed to do, if they can't fix the activation server. Easter doesn't begin in the US until tomorrow, and the problem occurred on Monday/Tuesday, and they haven't yet publicly announced the problem anywhere either. The problem is only announced by third parties.

Well I plugged the ipad into itunes, and this time it came up to say that it would download a new version of ios9.3, which I presume was the fixed version. Took about 2 hours in total to update, and again it won't activate. How frustrating.

They've just released a newer version of 9.3 that doesn't have the bug.  Do a DFU restore with the new firmware.
