Well from a long time Android Fanboy I have to say the X is a great looking phone and love the screen. Think that phones have now turned a corner and becoming too expensive to change every year, well me anyway, and features are now more and more gimmicky. I enjoyed the S5 with its changeable battery and plastic body as it was practical, glass isn't as I hate buying something nice and having to cover it up.

Samsung and Apple seem to chase each other which is good for technology but bad for price conscientious.

What is interesting from some of the info I have seen, is that the new phone will have a weird aspect ratio, and due to the notch on the display, it means viewing videos will mean that a lot of the screen gets cut out. Otherwise you end up with bars at the top and bottom, giving it a head and chin again. Also web pages get cropped at the top and bottom, and at the notch. So I am wondering if it is going to be all that great for many when they try using it. IMO the notch creates problems, and hopefully the next version gets everything under the OLED screen, as apparently that is possible with that technology.

Yeah I've also wondered how video would work on the X. Also photos ...

Video isn't so bad, becuase you end up with black bars down the side, which makes it not too different from an iphone 8. If you don't want that, you can double tap to zoom in to full width, but it then crops the top and bottom of the screen, and you then get the camera cutout hiding part of the image. Also the curved corners hide part of the picture.

But using safari in landscape on the other hand could be difficult, due to how wide and narrow the page will become.

The more I read about the iPhone X and look at its design and specs the more I like it. I currently have a seven plus I don't see much need for the eight but the ten has a few features I would find useful

The 8 and 10 both have the advantage over the 7, in that you can listen to music via wired headphones, while charging. I think the 10 is a year too early, because I think they were forced to make a few too many compromises, to get it released for the 10th anniversary, and technology isn't quite there. Ideally they would have wanted touch ID in the screen. They also ideally wanted the entire front of it to be a screen without the notch or bezel. I also don't think they really wanted the black bezel to be as thick as it is.  I think they would have preferred the screen to be curved at all edges, more like the galaxy.  But all those updates can potentially come in the next generations.

Personally I can live without a front camera, if it means I can have a full screen without a notch.

I like the one hand stuff and should the cellular watch come here that will be useful. The camera looks very good and the display stunning.

Some commentators are worried about the brightness of the iPhone X display at around 600 nits versus the Note 8 at 1,000 nits, plus the Note 8 is higher resolution. I guess we will have to wait until the real world tests to find out if the lower brightness of the iPhone will be an issue or not - esp for outside viewing.

I agree and I will be reading real life reviews. I am not in the market until next year

600 nits is bright for a phone, but I get your point with outside viewing.

I really like the X and would pay a $250 premium for it, but $350 is a bit too much of a stretch.

I think I will go for the 8+ with 64Gb, priced at $1450. I was budgeting $1600 and expecting to be able to get 128Gb for that price, but having had a look at the detailed breakdown of memory usage on my current 64Gb phone I'm pretty sure I can continue to get by on 64Gb for another couple of years. The $150 saved can go towards a pair of Bose QC35.

All 3 phones come with glass backing only?

The portrait camera mode looks awesome.

I can't figure out why there is no Always On Display with the OLED display. This is one of the best features of having an OLED display.

Actually it is likely the 10 will have an always on opinion eventually. Just needs iOS to be upgraded and it does run a custom version. I am surprised they didn't showcase the 10 with dark mode menus etc as it would suit that a lot more. But dark mode will come eventually no doubt.

Yep... I get the impression that they have to be for wireless charging to work.  Or at least that is inferred.

Since the 8/8 Plus is just another incremental update, I wonder why Apple broke their own naming scheme. Would've thought it would've been the 7S and 7S Plus.

In an impressions thread, this is the final answer. And to add the X ... maybe should be XE (after SE)

There's nothing 8 and 8 Plus about it. Maybe a ploy to get more people to ditch their 7.
