Not really, because your accessories can be another $500. You can buy, directly from the Apple store

  • a case for either $65 or $85

I think the case I already have will fit my iPhone 8 since it's only 0.2mm bigger than the 6S in each dimension.

  • Air pods for $270

I already have them.

  • the Belkin wireless charging pad @ $110 (Don't you want two or three? One for your desk & one next to the bed & maybe even one in the car?)

One is good enough for now. A conventional cable is fine for rare occasions when I have to charge at work, in the car or on an aircraft.

  • Maybe a second USB-C charging cable?
  • and now, for the real clincher: a 29W USB-C power adapter @ $85 because the one shipped in the box is not the fast charging version.

I don't need this because I charge overnight.

If you can use the same accessories for two or three generations of phone and you don't get carried away with feeling that you need to own all of them then it's not as expensive as you make out.

I can't think of any phone brand that has those included with the exception of the fast charger but  not all supply them. I know when I purchased my S7 Edge the case was around $80, the charge pad was around $110 and Bluetooth earphones would cost between $220 to $500.

I have never purchased a genuine Apple accessory with my phone, and when the X is released I probably wont then either.

The case I buy will likely be $20 from trade me or Amazon, the charging pad... well I don't even know if I will buy one or not, fast charger? my phone currently goes on charge for about 30 min at night if I have been playing games for hours and is around 30-40% so don't need a fast charger. I have BeatsX wireless headphones, and the only reason I went wireless was because I kept hitting the cord at the gym and nearly dropping my phone, also I do box fit so I wanted to leave my phone in the cubby hole and still be able to have my music on.

If you are so keen on finding reasons to not buy the phone then I think you may be able to convince yourself.

Me, I like the way the new phone looks, I like to upgrade regularly and I have been saving my pocket money :)

The 8 is a glass backed phone to allow for wireless charging which will likely mean the cases will fit differently, so may not fit, but worth a crack anyway before buying another.

If you can afford $2k for a mobile, why be tight on a case....doesnt make sense.

I think he was just making a point that you don't need to go out and buy lots of accessories, and I tend to agree.

It will be interesting to see how apple sells the "wireless charging" when it finally rolls out its own chargers, but if it simply goes for the "stick it on this pad" then I think the whole this will fail,

I'm expecting Apple to go the "plug this charger in here and it will charge all devices within X feet of it" = hence the name "air power"

From what I understand it is a pad based system and you will be able to get a pad that will accommodate multiple devices.  I don't think I would go out and buy one just for that. However like everything else I am bound to move that way eventually, when it becomes commonplace.

Air Power means that the pad can charge several devices at the same time. You can place an iPhone, Airpods and Apple Watch all the charge pad at the same time. Quite cool really

I got popup errors when trying to use third party lightning cables, saying I was not using a genuine accessory. Also found using the iphone with some chargers can make the device a bit laggy. Apparently that is a known issue when using some third party chargers. So I tend to stick to apple branded accessories.

Had my airpods for a while now and while I use them most days, I far prefer the ordinary Apple airbuds for qualkity. I have found quality to be an issue, the case has started to yellow in places, and they do drop out a bit.

Has anyone that ordered from Apple had a shipping notification yet? Mine's still sitting on "preparing to ship" but will supposedly be here tomorrow. Do they come from inside NZ now?

You'll get your shipping notice tonight, around 8:30 PM. If Apple say you're getting your phone tomorrow, you'll get it tomorrow.

Apple are AMAZING at shipping stuff from Aussie - I imagine they have some deal with NZ Customs as their stuff flies through clearance and straight onto courier trucks.

With that said, I have found with prior years of iPhone pre-orders that they ship the phones to NZ ahead of time but you don't get the shipping notice until Thursday night anyway.
