The iPhone X durability, scratch and bend test -

... and Apple's price to replace a cracked back ... US$549! (about NZ$780)

Can’t bear to watch. This is why I have bought AppleCare. One repair in two years and will be definitely worth it.

I am checking if we can reduce the excess on our contents insurance for similar money, then theft etc.would also be covered.

Courier arrived around an hour ago and delivered it - busy doing software updates and downloading my apps back! 😃

Woohoo! Still waiting for mine in Marua Rd, just drove down the street from lunch and saw a CourierPost van pull out of a drive but then pull into another drive in the OTHER direction to my office... come baaaack! cry

Oh nooo - hopefully you get it shortly! laughing. Does your track and trace say its with the driver?

Went looking for a case today and everyone seemed slightly confused about the iPhone X, quite a small selection of cases too. Ended up getting a nice Incipio case though so I'm happy.

@Swemoph Could I ask which Incipio case did you get and where, cost? And do you know whether the phone will charge wirelessly with the case on?

Cheers

Sure - It's the Incipio Reprieve Sport case and I got it from Harvey Norman for $39.95. Can confirm wireless charging still works just fine smile

Should this be changed to the iPhone X owners thread or should we be starting a new one?

By popular request ... I have started an owners' thread! But perhaps if this becomes the owners thread then that other thread can be orphaned

Interesting about the sapphire glass still scratches at the same level as the glass. Why don;t they make the back out our either a polycarbonate composite or a ceramic so there is potentiall less chance of it cracking. Or make it easy and cheap to remove like on the s8? Although I guess if it does crack, you can just buy a plastic skin to go over it, but then again, why make it glass in the first place, as all phones do get dropped, and will suffer some damage unless in a case. It is not as though they don't make them from the most slippery materials either.

Yes, introducing a glass back doubles the risk of shattering glass on a drop. Sadly, like the removal of the headphone jack, more and more manufacturers are introducing glass backs. Recently, HTC with the U11 and now Huawei with the new Mate 10 - both replacing unibody metal phones. Arrgg...!

There is a metal panel under the glass, but it needs a big hole in it for the Wireless charging,

Similar issue today, Kept checking the tracking which said it was in Auckland still, 10am still no sign of courier. Got to the front door and found it sitting there! Large sticker on the box stating "ATL not allowed" - they must of came to the house very early, didnt hear anyone knock.

Couple hours later a courier turns up asking about the box he left at the door, he was sweating bullets... he wanted the box so he could scan it! It was still showing as undelivered

DHL rang me today and the lady was really apologetic and promised to contact again once they have details from Courierpost but it's becoming very clear that there have been major screwups with Courierpost as she admitted that my situation was hardly unique. I just hope Apple doesn't go back to TNT.

Apple have arranged a replacement iPhone X to be sent to me since mine was OBF. Got the tracking details and it’s with TNT (sigh)

What is OBF?

And if this is being handled by the repairs team it may end up on DHL, if your tracking number doesn't seem to go anywhere for a day or so call them up and ask them to check the tracking details with the warehouse.

My contents insurance has a $250 excess, I am going to hedge my bets that way.

I have had 1 apple care claim on my iPhone's, iPad's and AppleWatche's over the last few years, and that one would have been a warranty claim if it wasn't applecare.

Out-of Box Failure

It’s with TNT, which will be handed over to NZ Couriers for final delivery. Believe they still use TNT for the repairs/Apple Care area of the business. DHL used for product sales.

Can I heartily suggest that you complain to both DHL and Apple? This kind of BS with other people's valuable property is not on and heads need to roll.

I will give DHL a lot of credit for how they've handled my complaint. They've actually followed up and kept me informed -- this is almost unheard of in my experience when it comes to how NZ corporates handle customer complaints. Whilst it appears that Courierpost were the people who let everyone down, they've taken responsibility for their agent's conduct and have never once denied the essential facts. They also sent a little hamper as a token of apology -- the stuff in it weren't really our thing but the gesture is very nice.
