Interesting article in the Sunday Star Times this morning (page A6).  Some gems...
...works in sync with Mac computers and the Vodafone NZ network.
Not PCs then?
It launched in the US last week and more than half a million sold in the first couple of days.
Ah really?  Are you sure?
All questions about the iPhone have to go through a (VFNZ) man who is incommunicado at weekends, apparently.
Anyone we know?

Basically, Apple and VFNZ are in communications lockdown and no detail is leaking.  The manager at the main VFNZ store in Lambton Quay doesn't even know if the launch is happening at his store.  Apparently, GamePlanet is doing a bit of rumour-spreading, although nothing that hasn't already been mooted here (I wonder what their source is).

This article's nicely finished off with a quick interview with the CEO of Fairfax Media NZ who loves her 1st generation iPhone (just to rub it in methinks).  She did ask Russell Stanners if it would be okay for her to use it on the VFNZ network... did you ask Apple as well, Joan?

I'm actually having second thoughts about queuing up at midnight at the Lambton Quay store.  I'm going to the Silicon Welly and StartUp Party on the same night and I'd imagine that several other people attending this will also queue up for the iPhone.  I reckon there could be 50 people in the line, possibly more.  The thing that really concerns me is Vodafone's slow instore service when buying or signing up for things - I could honestly see myself still there at 1 or 2am!

I wouldn't even contemplate queueing until you saw it in print on the VFNZ site that there is any point. Nothing's been said, at all....has it?

No there has been no official announcement just rumours.  I certainly won't be queuing until I know for sure that they are opening at midnight.

 Joan?

The already selected Vodafone stores, that get any of the very "limited" iPhone stock, have had their managers take part in iPhone training last week, so if you man in Lambton Quay wasn't part of it, then you can be pretty sure he isn't getting any.

less than 400 iPhones won't go far...

I dont know where people get there information from.. My mates, sister who has a friend  that works at vodafone in balclutha, who knows a guy working on the docks in port lyttleton says theres only 400 coming into the country? oh really?? great! now lets post that on geekzone!
I dont want to sound like one of those people but i have it on very good word from official sources (dont ask where!) All stores will have stock, as too how much stock each store will have, i cant tell you. Only certain stores will be opening at midnight (probably the flagship vodafone stores in major citys as already mentioned) the rest will be the normal 9am opening time..

Dude you are sounding exactly like one of those people!  I checked with my local VF First Mobile store who reckoned only VF owned stores would be selling the initial shipment of iPhones, but TBH I'm not beleiving anything I hear at the moment unless it's an offical statement from VF themselves!
