It looks like the new iPhone APN is www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz . That's what I saw written on all the counters at the Auckland store.

And it appears everyone is free to buy the iPhone to be used on Prepay, bar the data service, and again, this was noted on every counter in the store.

"4 – You are asked whether you want the phone “unlocked” which means that your phone will work on ANY network"

So are you saying that it CAN be put onto the telecom network!? If i was to buy the phone outright, could i then put it on telecoms current Network?

No, there is no way it can possibly work on Telecom's CDMA (current) network

7:50am - Dunedin - 4 or 5 people camped at the door of Vodafone store.

I say "or 5" because some dude was lurking as I drove past and I'm not sure if he was in the queue and wandering or just wandering.

Apparently store opens at 9am but it wouldn't surprise me if staff just opened when they arrived and set up.

Can anyone explain to me why it was 12:01am and not 12:00am? (not that it made any difference to me, I was tucked up fast asleep. Just curious.)

Can anybody tell me if they are able to change the APN or is it locked down and greyed out?  Just wondering if it's just a simple case of changing the APN from "www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz"to "internet" thus allowing a prepay version of the 3g iPhone to use casual data.

Anybody mind trying this?

Because 12.00 - well the actual time is 00.00 - is still Thursday, 00.01 is the first minute of Friday.

00.01 is the END of the first minute of Friday as far as I'm aware. 00.00.01 is the end of the first second of Friday. My clocks change date at 00.00.00. Doesn't everyone elses?

That seems somewhat strange considering everything Vodafone has said suggests the opposite - can anyone else confirm this? They've lost my sale regardless now. I would have paid a premium to get one last night, but with parallel importers estimating a price point of around $999 ($130 cheaper than Vodafone for the 16GB model) a week from now, I'll wait.

The APN is the dealbreaker for many people. This phone would be so much more appealing if we could just customise our own (horribly expensive Wink) plan.

You're absolutely right!  It's a deal breaker for me.  However, it still may be possible to change the APN ... no-one who bought one in the last 12 hours has confirmed either way if you can change it or not.  Guess they're still busy playing with the other settings!

Anyone ... anyone?

Vodafone has locked the APN so it's not editable out of the box (yet), enterprise deployment tools can't modify it either.

Thanks for the answer Mike.  At least I know now that data is locked out and impossible if I go for the prepay option.  Barring a future work around I think I'll stick with my 2G iPhone for now.  Shame!
