I've noticed that the iPhone X has dropped to $1699 at all the main retailers. Is it worth coughing up an extra $200 for the Xs or will the X be ok?

X is 95% XS. up to you what the 5% is worth

I’m wondering a similar thing about the X vs the XR. I can’t really see the value in the X though, despite the better screen and the dual camera system. The 128GB XR will be $200 cheaper than the X, will have the better chip, a new camera system front and rear (albeit single on the back) and better resale value a year or two down the line.

Assuming you don't want to take the X for a swim, it's about the same phone. But if you want to go swimming in with your iphone, (depending on teardown and water testing which I am sure will hit the youtube channels soon) then the XS [typed XR in error] is the one you want. Unless you also want to to the fancy magic photo changing after the fact - which really can be easily applied to the X if apple will allow it. Otherwise I see people selling their organs for the XS Max, as that is the only "new" phone in the line up. I guess the XR is also "new" in the sense that you can have magic effects that the 8 doesn't - again, I am sure if apple will allow it the 8 & 7 & 6S will also be able to do the magic tricks.

iPhone X and Xr are both IP67. only the Xs and Xs Max are IP68.

Batman:

why is dollar for dollar, NZ prices > 2X US prices? USD is not 2X higher than NZD

Not sure how you’re working this out. By the time you done your conversion and added on GST, it’s near enough there.

Divide by exchange rate (0.65), then add GST (x1.15) and you will find the added cost in NZ for iPhones vs USA is between $0 - $100, or about 5% of price.

Given Apple doesn’t change its pricing all year, this is a tiny buffer against the currency growing weaker I imagine.

Also take into account most states have sales tax too, so the difference is even less

Question for anyone who’s ordered direct from Apple - do they charge your credit card immediately after ordering or when the order is being processed for dispatch?

Is that “preparing for shipment” status actually indicative of imminent shipping though or is this a sneaky way of them securing your funds? i.e. are you expecting to receive your order in the next week?

... Phone security - the fact Apple take pride in the security of their products is quite a big bonus for me.

... and furthermore don't have to root my phone to install an ad blocker in the default browser.

Thanks for your reply. Picking up on a couple of your comments:

Security - I agree. I have recently contemplated a move to Apple solely for this reason, but price vs specs remains a barrier.

Ad blocker in Android. I run Brave browser on my Galaxy as default. It's an ad blocker, doesn't require a root, and it's UI is identical in all respects to Chrome.

For those that have ordered via 2degrees in the past, I see that they email you once tracking number is allocated. If for example you missed the first wave and got bumped back to 4-8 weeks, would they email you to say you’ve been bumped back or would you wait 6-7 weeks for a tracking number without any heads up?

Wife renewed her contract for 12 months, no confirmation email or anything other then the initial $29 upfront charged.

I've again had to remove some posts from people attempting to turn this into an Apple vs Android debate or to sidestep the thread. No more guys, this is not the thread to do it in.

@Dial111 I am interested to know as well. I have not heard a peep from 2degrees regarding my order. @2degreesCare mind letting us know what is happening here? :)

I've found it does, I believe it projects infrared light so it can map your face
