Looks like some app updates are needed to support the new iPad Pro screen. Stuff as an example has black bars down both sides and some apps seem to leave a lot of space for the gesture bar at the bottom of the screen.

When you live your life on Twitter and Facebook, and are only friends with like minded people on Twitter and Facebook, you are not living in the real world. You are living in a narcissistic echo chamber.

Usual story.  Took a while for most apps to support the iPhone X display, until Apple mandated it for any new apps or any apps that wanted to stay current with updates.

BlinkyBill: Apple store in Kyoto opens at 10:00 .... will pop in and pick up the new iPad pro

I walked past that very store recently! I was there when the typhoon (did not really) hit Kyoto. Nice place - I liked it. (Kyoto, not the Apple Store..!)

But the iPP does not run proper versions of PS or LR. Only App versions which are nowhere near as good. I'd have canned the iPad altogether and made the Air more powerful with a detachable touch screen.

You should look at the Photoshop demo from the event. Looks like the new iPad Pro will have a full fledge Photoshop in not too long.

OK, I will do that.

I need LR more than PS though. I only use a few features of PS - if I need serious PS heavy lifting I contract the work out.

Here is the demo that Adobe had before the Apple iPad Pro event.

If anyone was wondering, the ram is definitely user replaceable in the new Mac Mini.

It does require sliding out the logic board from the case, but it's quite an easy job imo.

eracode: One annoying thing with the new iPad Pro: With the iOS 12 update, Apple swapped the positions of the emoji and numbers keys on the virtual keyboard. After an outrage, they changed back to original positions in iOS 12.1.

Now the new iPad has 12.1 on it - but the two keys are now again in the ‘wrong’ positions with no way to get them back to original ‘correct’ positions. I suppose I’ll get used to it but bloody annoying in the meantime.

So I’m not going crazy after all:

https://forums.imore.com/ask-question/408841-2018-ipad-pro-onscreen-keyboard-ios-12-1-has-emoji-button-12-0-location.html

and not the only one to be unhappy about this. People are calling for a ‘small-dot’ update of iOS to re-fix this. Maybe this issue is affecting only the new 11” and not the new larger model.

gehenna: This was reverted in 12.1 i think

Not sure what you mean - maybe you haven't understood what I'm saying:

- key positions were cocked-up in iOS 12

- fixed in 12.1

- re-cocked-up in the iOS 12.1 that's loaded on the new IPP 11" (and maybe the larger model too).

Will still be OK on older iPads fixed with 12.1. Now broken on new 11" with 12.1.

Aside from being an excessively "American" presentation that is quite impressive; I hope that they do the same thing for Lightroom.

I think one of the principle issues using PS on that platform is the screen size. Once you have a lot of layers the canvas could feel a bit cramped and it could become difficult to get the full bird's eye view you need to assess the overall image. The example in the video is certainly nothing like what I would ever do myself - far, far more complex than I can do or want to do. My iMac is 27" and when editing images, I often wish it was 32" or even more.

Of course, on the road we do not have that luxury. I am presently debating whether to go with a 15" MBP and a monitor and sell the iMac and the iPad - although that costs as much as an iMac Pro...!

new iPad Pro is significant update over the previous ten, form factor is awesome. But the pencil is even more awesome.

If only I hadn't left my charger in Tokyo and only left with Japanese version plugs all would be perfect (hotel is mailing the charger back).

Kyoto lovely at this time of the year, BTW.

The only problem is the OS IMO. If it could also be used with a full desktop OS with full software programs, that would be great. I think the boxy edges do make it look thicker design wise, they could have made it look very sleak and hitech looking if they tapered them like on the air 2, but I am guessing that has to do with fitting in faceID into the edge. It is interesting how rounded corners has become a big thing, because that is how CRTs used to be, and it was a big advancement when they were able to get square corners onto TVs and monitors. But guessing that is a fashion thing. Just doesn't make the screen as efficient.
