chiefie: It DOESN'T save what I last arranged... I gave up trying to reorder to my preference as it is too dumb to retain my sorting order!!!!


I emailed the author of the software about this and he told me that to get reordering to stick, what you have to do is hit 'edit', move one of the channels, hit 'done', then repeat the process. He didn't realise this bug until it had been submitted to Apple. As NZBullet said, I can vouch that the author is a very decent guy who is working flat out to improve this app.

I am thinking the closed-development for iPhone is going to be quite costly for both developers (largely) and Apple due to the limitation so far without trial version, without ability to beta test the apps with selected few (public beta) to iron out bugs/usage style of each different people...

Interesting theory but I think just a little bit over the top. Remember we're talking about a $5 'convenience' app, not a $600+ mission critical app that NEEDS to be as close to perfect as possible at launch.

At $5-odd a pop, the developer can't be making huge amounts of cash and therefore such an involved beta-testing period would be to the detriment of his revenue generating capabilities. I mean, I bought the WeatherNZ app (same developer) and had a few issues from the outset - but I thought it was brilliant that I could email this developer with my issues and he was able to suggest workarounds and also factored this in to the bug fixes for the first update.

However I would agree with you in that there should probably be some better measures in place for the developers for some of the higher priced apps available to the iPhone/iPod Touch, but having said that, they probably do have better testing processes in place already - hence the higher ticket price!!

In reality, you've got to have some expectation that the first release of an app like this is likely to have bugs. Surely it's a positive thing that the developer is constantly striving to improve his product by creating free updates.

After all, it was $5 and it tells you what is on the telly at the moment - the fact it has a few bugs shouldn't warrant this amount of excitement I wouldn't have though??!

Good to know. This wasnt available the last time I visited their site. Much better to be able to direct a concern directly to them rather than rant about it here!

I dont know what is going on.
Over the past 24 hrs This app is not loading any data.
Mind you neither is the weather app.
Ive done a reset of device and same story.
Ill post this in the orsome www also

Edit myself/
0830- weather data comming through OK now. Had to reset stations as I reinstalled.
However TV programme details still are not
Just checked. Map is dated yesterday at 12 noon !!

Both apps have been loading data regularly throughout the last few days, and still today.  Might be worth raising on GetSatisfaction to see if others have had this issue

as per synoptic map on weather. you were 10mins early.  The 6am image is loaded.

With weather I am wondering if you also may have had issues with MetService being overloaded?  (a little off topic as this discussion is tvGuide not WeatherNZ)

Yeah I had issues with the Weather app too yesterday (not intending to hijack the tvGuide app!)

But all is right now it appears

The weather app is fine now but the TV app is still not loading for me.
Presumably its comm issues with wherever the data comes from ??
Forgot to mention I did go to the Saitisfaction website also and left a message

I have just had a tvGuide application update from the AppStore. Initial testing shows a marked improvement in its general performance!!!!!!!! Smile

Sorting seems to work without any bother and it has not locked up while scrolling through channels in landscape.

What is the changelog for this? I still experience the slow-respond when tapping on "Edit" "Done" "Add" etc... it seems like it takes ages to register a tap and action it...

In fact I find iPod Touch 2.0.x firmware is slower than 1.1.4, and it uses up battery quicker too...

When downloading the update, the comments (from memory) were that they had added HD symbols where appropriate, and the update included bug fixes.

Can you tell what version you're on? I cant see anywhere you can check that...

Everything seems to be OK with TV guide today.
Must have been data access problems from the source yesterday?
I see I have the update available excepting the Iphone wont let me download it. Says go to PC and d/l it there??
