as an android user for many years, im not invested in their system at all... 99% of all apps I use are free apps... im struggling to think of anything paid for (maybe tasker?).

If iphone suddenly dropped in price to the same price as a xiaomi phone, swapping from android to iphone wouldnt be too much of an issue, i'd get use to the interface (currently whenever i pickup a iphone i hate it, but thats because I'm use to the android interface/way of doing things).

but they won't (and I wouldnt swap anyway, i do like android).

why on earth would i pay $1400 for a phone when a $300 is practically just as good in all the areas that really matter??  sure my resale value will be less, but the phone cost me $300 vs $1400.  I couldn't care less about loosing $100 a year on a phone (assuming I keep the phone for 3 years, current phone ive had for 3.5 years).

In the past I swapped from an iphone 4 to an windows phone to samsung s3, since the samsung ive stayed with android.  Windows phone I felt was kinda the best, it was just lacking in apps, the homescreen and the speed of it was impressive.

I do wish there was a real alternative to imessage though that worked on multiple platforms.  thats basically the only feature of iphone im envious of.  i use facebook messenger as my primary chat app to mimic imessage (which it does if everyone else uses fb messenger,  most ppl i know do).

most people I know have android phones, so imessage would be wasted on them.

When my wife toilet dunked her phone I gave her my then 6 month old Note 8 and I purchased a One Plus 6 on special for $800. The only thing I really miss is the stylus and note taking which mywife uses extensively at work. The One Plus does everything I need and does it well and nearly half the price of the Note8. I have used

iPhones in the past as I am a Mac user, the interoperability of iPhone and Mac is great but IOS frustrated me a lot especially maps. Apple Photos is definately superior to Google Photos and Windows 10 awful Photos App. The bottom line for me was I do not see value at all in spending $1500 to $2000+ on a phone and I believe

Apple will keep pushing the price until there is a consumer backlash.

Maybe people are finally waking up to Apple's greed?

They're not greedy, its not personal, they're simply a business trying to extract as much money from your pocket as legally possible.

The Google unlimited service restricts the file size to 15MB or less and that does not meet my needs. I use Onedrive and iCloud for cloud storage of my photos and a NAS Unit at home. I did have my phone photos on Google Photos until something odd happened and it would only display photos up to a few month old.

kobiak: Because cheap 200-300 USD Android one phone kicks iPhone arse :)

The difference between iPhone and cheaper no name devices is so small, most of ppl buy iPhone because of status rather then features.

I actually couldn't disagree with you more.

I stick with iPhone because I have so much invested in the ecosystem - from apps to other Apple Devices.

I love the idea of getting way more for less through Android and would jump ship if I was starting all over again, but you're wrong if you think Apple buyers are just buying for status...it's just a bloody phone/personal computing device.

And as others have said - Apple continues to support old devices for a long time.

So you made a choice to lock yourself in ecosystem, which you can't get out now. paid apps, paid services and paid who knows what.

Now, how about these students with 1-2k phones, but can't afford a car or text books. I know a lot of ppl who make 1k NZD a month but still own latest iphones and pay personal load and complain about how they straggle with finance.

it's less relevant to NZ, but more common in larger countries, ppl buy luxury goods and devices when they can't afford it. iphone passed the point when it become super unaffordable - thus less sales in most of the countries world wide.

and just not be seen as iphone hater. when iphone 1 was released - I wanted it so badly, but could not afford it. I was symbian user for many years.

Than affordable and great android devices released, got myself moto defy and was happy with it and owned another 3-4 android phones over yrs and never looked at iphones.

iphone X released and this is the second time I wanted an iphone! can afford it easily without any issues, but could not justify the cost vs features I would get over my $400 android device.

so I got with practical decision making process: price vs features - and iphone is complete loser :(

rugrat:

The battery replacement program has probably made people more aware they can make phone last longer/ improve performance by changing battery.

New phones as well as price have no home button so guessing everything has to be done by gestures, on ipad pro, cheaper then latest iphones, I've tried gestures, they work but sometimes get it wrong and not as comfortable as just pressing a button once or twice quickly.

When my 3-4 year old phone gives up the ghost, I'll probably look for an older model Apple one, will see what's available Android as well, just with Apple know will get all updates and they support their devices for many years.

The battery replacement program has probably made people more aware that phone manufacturers can purposely degrade the experience of your phone to encourage you to buy a new one.  Built in obsolescence.

I think it has arrived.

iPhone XR is only selling at 50% of Apple's predicted sales, which is a likely driver for Apple reintroducing this month the previously discontinued SE with a USD $500 cheaper price tag than the XR.

The pictures taken by pixel devices will have free storage forever. 15mb sounds like a perfectly reasonable quality to most people I'd say. Im not a photographer though.

hmm interesting, just rechecked - all my photos were in max resolution!

then i double checked - resizing happens when your photos are higher than 16 MP.
