Hey everyone,

I'm new to these forums so I hope i'm posting in the right subsection.
I am considering buying an iphone 3g and I hope someone here can help me answer these questions..

1) Are these phones that vodafone is selling for $979 without contract unlocked since they are prepay?
In other words will I be able to use the iphone with a simcard in Europe or are they locked to vodafone nz only?
If they are unlocked, what would happen if i jailbroke the iphone, would it still be unlocked or would it mess it up?

I am really confused as I've heard a couple of conflicting things about prepay. Vodafone's official line is here (  http://vodafonenz.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/vodafonenz.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6513) ,

but I've heard from some people that everything except 3G works with a prepay SIM.

2) Another thing, do you think the price of this thing will go down in the next 6 months for prepay or you recon it will hang around 1000 until the next version is out.

Thanks in advance hopefuly someone knows a little more than me about this device..

dan

The iphone 3g is not sim locked and will work with a prepay sim. This has been mentioned many times in the forums.

The devices selling for $979 are not on prepay. They are unlocked. They will work with a prepay SIM card for voice and SMS. For data you will need to visit www.unlockit.co.nz from an iPhone over WiFi to modify the APN settings.

Please read previous discussions in the Mac OS X Mobile forum since this has already been talked a lot in the last three weeks.
