I'm not sure about this "too fancy" idea :-)

I have a 14" MBP and it is a fabulous machine (Pro not Max chipset). I got a surprise yesterday - it ran out of battery (it has never run out of battery before, ever). Turned out that using it for 48 hours from last charge across three days was enough to drain the battery eventually!

Always fun to see new Apple releases. Some noise around the famous "X-Mac" i.e. a machine filling the gap between a Mini and the Pro, which would make us most delighted - but the idea made sense in the days when RAM was user replaceable and GPUs could be swapped, whereas that's all in the past according to Apple. I guess new will find out...

I'll be interested to see what Mac Books will be announced.

I have an iMac Pro which still crunches the numbers well. However I'm mindful that Apple has form in abandoning chipsets in terms of OSX support so I've been cogitating a move to Apple silicone.

Well, new SE, new iPad, new "Mac Studio" and associated display, and the 27" iMac is dead. No sign of the rumoured Mac Mini upgrade.

The price bump on the iPhone SE is a shame. $NZ 800 seems like a pretty steep entry price to get into an iPhone.

I am starting to get increasingly frustrated with the lack of movement on the MacBook Air and entry level MacBook Pro. All of Apple's laptop line up below the $3k price point date back to November 2020. I would like to replace my ageing Intel MacBook Pro but there's currently nothing that I feel motivated to replace it with.

They’ll release the new Mac Pro first, which was hinted at in the event today. That would remove Intel from all their machines, in line with what they said when they released the M1 Macs.

IMO an Air right now is a compelling machine for a user like you - great battery life, no fan and I don’t think you do anything too demanding. Given the thermal performance of the M1 machines it’d be a very good upgrade.

Fair call. I would quite like them to do a minor update of the entry level MacBook Pro to get rid of the Touch Bar, but I guess buying a MacBook Air instead would be an effective solution to that. As far as I can see the only downside to the Air is the 400 nit display brightness compared with 500 nit on my existing MacBook Pro.

Maybe I should just grab the current MacBook Air as it's pretty cheap and, as you say, it would comfortably handle the basic stuff that I would use it for.

If it's any consolation I do love my M1 MacBook Air so I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a great purchase - but I'll admit to being extremely keen on these rumoured coloured Mac notebooks. If that had been announced today my credit card would be getting a workout!

Speaking of colours, not a huge fan of the shade of green they've announced today for the iPhones 13.

Its still a huge jump. and implies that its not really an upgraded mini at all..

I need some reviews to decide which spec Studio.

Alternatively maybe a MBP hooked up to the monitor.

Yes. Why would anyone seriously think it was?

My iMac Pro is not just another iMac. The synthesis of the parts results in a machine that is still pretty quick almost 5 years after introduction. More so than paper specs would suggest.

I’ve no reason to change it other than OSX is starting to get features that only work on Apple silicone.
