Battery only charged to 80% overnight...that doesn't seem right. Do you have optimised charging turned on for it? In that mode it only charges it to 80% until you need to use it, but perhaps it just hasn't learnt when that is yet (or the software update has stuffed that up some how).

Keep an eye on the animation when you put your Watch on the charger. It'll probably show a broken green circle with an arrow that points inward at about the 80% mark, which means it's only going to charge to 80% or similar for that charging session (I think).

Yes optimised charging is on, in watch settings > battery it shows a graph and says “last charged to optimised limit - 0630”. At 6am I told it to charge to full.

Ok ta I may well not have noticed this, I’ll check tonight (if my battery lasts til then) Currently down to 51% at 2.20pm. I may need to turn off Always On display again if battery life is too short. (Series 7, battery health 88%)

Removing the ability to scroll between watch faces by swiping left or right is a bit of step backwards.

I don't want to upgrade my XR to 17 so I'll wait till my 15 arrives to update my watch OS.

MattEast:

iPhones, iPads, HomePod Minis and Apple Watches mostly all updated without a hitch. Only blip has been my sons Apple Watch SE (Series 2) that is connected to his iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 isn't eligible for iOS17, but when I go to update his Watch from the Watch app, it says the Phone needs a software update (which is clearly doesn't/can't). Cannot update directly from the Watch (yet), guessing there's a fair load on the servers...so we shall see how it goes tomorrow.

I see this line has been added to the Watch section on Apple's website, "Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch SE require iPhone Xs or later with iOS 17 or later".

The requirement for an Apple Watch SE up until this week was an iPhone 8...so disappointed Apple has moved the goal posts there (would be fine if Family sharing was available to LTE enabled Watch's in NZ, but sadly this isn't the case yet either). Hoping the Watch will just update OTA, otherwise I guess I'll have to return it as not fit for purpose.

As far as I’m aware the paired phone to the watch must be running the same, ah major version? So for watchOS10 you need to be running iOS17 on your paired phone. As the iPhone 8 cannot be upgraded to iOS17 your watch is stuck on watchOS9 until you physically upgrade to a phone running with iOS17.

The watch is still compatible with iPhone 8, just cannot be upgraded to the latest version of iOS and therefore watchOS. Apple are pretty good at continuing to support older versions of iOS with security fixes etc for a while, but you miss out on new features.

The good thing of course is that regardless of how far advanced your version of iOS is, it's always backwards compatible to the WatchOS version your wrist-borne device is using - I have a 14Pro running iOS17 and it stil works with my old Series 2 running (don't know which version of old WatchOS). It's my back-up should anything happen to my Ultra.

Has anyone tried the offline maps feature? If it works with Carplay then it would be useful for when I visit my parents at the top of the South Island as there is a huge mobile coverage blackspot across the Whangamoas.

The Watch OS update will be useful for me if and when the topographical maps roll out beyond the US.

was using it on beta, worked fine with carplay

I used it with CP and it refused to search within the downloaded map and told me I had to go live.

Is anyone having issues connecting Airpods to their device since the update?

Mine don't always automatically connect and sometimes it will show as being connected to my phone, but the music continues to come from the phone, rather than through the headphones.

Series 1 watch here. Haven’t updated iPhone 12 to iOS17 yet.

Battery life not so good on watch, turned off raise to wake to get a bit more out of it. Will be buying new watch soon, but so many choices compared to when brought first watch. Think it’s had a good run though.

If anything, my AirPods Pro have been better than ever. Connecting and moving from device to device as I need them to.

Received iOS and iPadOS 17.0.1 today, interestingly when I updated on the iPhone is said it might need to remove some apps in order to have enough room to handle the install files. My iPhone has 60GB+ free so not sure what’s going on there…iPad didn't come up with that prompt (it has 65GB free). I doubt it needs that much free space to install, anyone on a 64GB device is going to be in trouble! I put it down to a glitch (surely)

Optimised charging seems to have settled down on both phone and watch, although oddly with my alarm set for 6am, the optimised charging aims for 3am.
Today I turned off the Always On display and as of 7pm I still have 53% battery remaining. Previous two nights I’ve ended up in low power mode by 9pm.
Cheers.

Maybe I should take this as a sign that I should get a new phone and new AirPods?
