I have been using my iPhone on the XT network for over a month having downloaded the Telecom carrier files at the beginning of this thread.
There is the warning about whether the settings will work for roaming and that Telecom may not be able to help if there is a problem.  As   I will be traveling soon to Australia, South Korea and the USA, I am keen to know whether anyone has used their phone in these countries using the carrier files. Also now that Telecom is advertising the XT network for iphones do they have their own official files that they will support for roaming?

So Telecom are now offering a $600 account credit plus free data when you sign to a One Rate 180 plan or higher, when really the iPhone is not setup to work properly on XT without installing these third-party carrier settings?

Sorry if I've misunderstood something here. But if this is the case, then isn't is wrong for Telecom to entice iPhone users to switch to their network? Especially when they're not offering any support for connectivity issues and basically saying DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I called Telecom's help desk yesterday for some specific advice. To be honest I was a little shocked at the lack of awareness anybody even had of the current promotion. It definitely doesn't instill much confidence in idea of switching to their network to use a product they don't support... when THEY are telling us to with this latest offer!

We're looking at purchasing several iPhones direct from Apple and then signing up to XT business plans. Should we bother or are we going to be faced with days of frustration in order for it to run smoothly? It is also critical that we have the ability to roam.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

The carrier settings that are in the first post here, or at unlockit.co.nz work 100%. There are no issues with using an iPhone on the XT network. I've been using a US sourced (ATT) on the network since it launched.

I have also used the phone in Australia and while it took a long time to pickup a network, it did, and worked.

I initially browsed (via WiFi) to unlockit.co.nz and used that method. Everything worked, SMS, data, 3G etc.

Cheers,

Rick

The iPhone will work just fine without these settings. It's just that you will have to change some settings to access data (as you would if moving a phone from either operator to another) and this file just makes things easier and quicker.

There's nothing wrong there. The same would apply if you buy a handset from Telstra and bring to Vodafone, or buy from Telecom and take to AT&T.

I notice there is a new iTunes 8.2.1 update available. I didn't want to update until I was sure the XT carrier file can be successfully applied through this new update. Anyone know if it can be yet?

Nothing has changed. You still need to do the command to enable the .ipcc to be selected but it updates and works as per normal.

Has anyone tested if this iPhone 3.1 Beta 2 Disables Unauthorized AT&T Tethering affects XT Carrier pack?

I updated this morning and it appears to have been disabled in 3.1b2, although I didn't fully test it. My app requires tethering to work so I restored back to 3.1

It shouldn't disable tethering since Telecom, like Vodafone want people to use it (or don't care) unlike AT&T.

It perhaps 'shouldn't' be disabled as XT dont mind but my concern is that Apple dont officially recognize XT as a carrier and so the change might "accidently" disable the teethering. Anyone tested this and found that they CAN still teether with XT? I am concerned that first teethering goes and then all of a sudden none of the "unofficial" carrier pack works
