Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

CJPhoto: What Frequencies does it run on. Is it like the old version that will run better on Telecom or are they putting out 2 versions (850 and 900mhz)?

As per their technical specification page, no changes - WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz, meaning 100% coverage on XT Network, and partial (2100 MHz only) coverage on Vodafone.

How much of the vodafone network work on 2100?

djpaubes: I just watched the vid from youtube which was posted above...

Apart from the new camera features which i doubt I would use much the only real drawing point is the capacity being 32gb. OS 3.0 on the older 3g might be enough for me... maybe.

Will voice control work on the 3g with the new OS? Must be just software dependant right?

I'm pretty sure that the voice control is in the 3G S model only (along with video recording), i think the camera improvements (auto focus, auto macro, better low light performance) are going to be really important, opening up a whole range of interesting new apps :-)

Looks like vodafone is getting the new phone:

"OK, here's what I know: YES, we'll have the iPhone 3GS but NZ isn't in the first wave so we're expecting it before August. More to follow."

No voice control on 3g only on 3GS here is a list of differences: http://store.apple.com/nz/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2OTU

In 19 main centres. Outside this area is WCDMA 900 MHz. Where it can't get 3G coverage it will drop to GPRS.

"How much of the vodafone network work on 2100?"

I wish people would read the previous posts in the thread...

I think thier 2100 network covers 19 towns and cities which they claim as 80 percent coverage.

head to:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/coverage/

and click 3G Broadband. This will show thier 2100 range.

Voda's new coverage map is much improved and makes it very clear.

Update: They have a nice drop down box where you can put in your phone model and it will select which bands are appropriate. For some reason it does not list the Iphone...hmmm

Now the wait begins for pricing, no doubt it will average at best.... However I will probly buy the I-phone 3gs outright later this year... It looks kinda funky and the improved speed & camera is definitly a bonus

freitasm: If you go to http://live.gizmodo.com/ and look at the whole set you will it's Month and Day.

but not for July or August
The graphic above came from that site.

The slides are Jun 19, Jun 26 for days.. and then Jul '09 and Aug '09 referring to month only

"very soon, just a week and a half, Jun 19

that'll be in  United States, Canda, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom
just a week later we'll take it to 6 more countries
then a week or two later we will start the rollout throughout July to 28 more countries
We get into August, even more countries "

2nd week of July does sound like the money but not a fixed date

It looks identical to the old one. Its the internals that are upgraded. Estimated 2x of the exisitng 3G model.

Wow the tedious Apple V PC opening.....

New watchers skip to 2:10 when watching this.

The Nerdestorone in the room is classic, watch the crowd shots...lol

Although 1:27:12 is about as cringeworthy as anything ever gets.

Should be good to accessory manufacturers (cases etc)

Will be interesting to see what third party accessories hit the market that utilise the dock connection.

Hmmm.

Initial impressions for me are that the upgrade from an existing 3G is minimal and probably not worth worrying about.
However, I have the 2G iPhone and most likely will be getting the new model.

The camera is a much needed upgrade to the hardware, but why stop at 3mp when lots of phone cams now go to 7+MP?? It will never replace my DSLR though.

The battery life is a big plus but not as big as the improved camera imo.

Im just kind of getting sick of waiting for hacks to be available for the new software before updating, hence I will be updating.

Depending on the plans Vodafone offer, I guess. Hopefully XT will push down the plans, but I cant see it.

Any rumours on the bluetooth capability?

The force is strong with this one!
