Hi All,

Just setup my 3GS on XT network and everything is working sweet xcept sending email.

my email is netsmart and the outgoing server on my desktop is smtp.xtra.co.nz

After reading all the searched forum posts I could find I've currently got my outgoing mail server as following.

Primary server send.xtra.co.nz
server is ON
Host name send.xtra.co.nz
user name left optional
password left optional
SSL is ON
Authentication password is selected with a tick
server port 465

didn't previouslay have a data plan until today but don't think this is an issue as should go out on casual data rates until plan kicks in ??

I've gone wrong somewhere but can't see where ..... it will be obvious I know. Should the primary servr and host name be the same ??

Also nearly forgot to add have changed the APN to internet.telecom.co.nz

Cheers

If you want to send an email through send.xtra.co.nz with a non-xtra email address i.e yourname@yourdomain.com instead of yourname@xtra.co.nz, you need to confirm you own that email by adding to your account. Instructions can be found here: http://www.nzconnection.net/Xtra_Email_(@xtra)_settings

ok .... now I get what needs to be done.

so the xtra email and password to log into the area where you do this .... should this have been given to me by telecom when I signed up for the data plan ? ( I don't know what my xtra address is)

will loading the XT carrier bundle get around this issue or will it need to be done regardless if i want to use my company domain email address ? eg toby@dfe.co.nz

Xtra are no longer allow non- xtra users to use thier smtp mail gateway. although in the past the smtp.xtra.co.nz port 25 could be used by anyone to send email through xtra's mail servers this has been restricted. You will need to use your email providers outgoing mail settings rather than xtra. If you do not have an @xtra.co.nz email account you will find it difficult if not impossible to use the send or smtp xtra settings

No being provided a data plan or internet access has nothing to do with having an isp provider, although in the past fixed line internet access almost always came hand in hand with an email setup. Telecom do  not provde xtra accounts. To have an @xtra email account you will need to request from xtra an email only account ( it will cost )

If yo have a company domain, your domain provider should be providing an outgoing mail server as well as an incoming server

xtra is my companies isp for work email ..... so I guess we must have an xtra account as all our outgoing mail from desktop mail accounts and mobile is on smtp.xtra and is curenly working ...... although our company domain is hosted elsewhere.

So i guess its a case of tracking down the xtra account email address password and authenticating the company domain email address on xtra/yahoo.

Yep thats it, you will need to chnge the outgoing mail server to the following
smtp.officemail.co.nz
host name: smtp.officemail,co.nz
user name ( your companies xtra account name without the @xtra.co.nz bit )
password
use SSL = on
authenication = password
server port 465
