maknz: Set the APN yourself? You can do that without Jailbreaking.

http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/carrier-bundles/xt-carrier-bundle/

From the site:
PLEASE NOTE: Tethering is unavailable on iPhone OS 3.1 and onwards. At this stage there is no workaround for this. If you are currently running OS 3.0.x and require tethering, do not update to a newer firmware as you will lose this function and there is no way to roll back to an earlier version once updated.

I believe that 3.1 is preinstalled these days.

120MB for $12 on XT. Same pricing really just a larger quantity, which is nice.

Uh, I'm not talking about tethering, I'm addressing the part where he said change the APN.

I was specifically talking about the tethering APN, although I can see that my post was ambiguous.

Don't think there is such a thing as a tethering APN.

I was under the impression that in 3.0 there was an APN setting in the carrier file for tethering. I can't say for sure since I don't own one, primarily due to lack of tethering :P

I think you're thinking of MMS.

I just opened up the carrier bundle linked above and it has three APNs in it: iPhone Data, MMS, and Tethering.

But I digress! The point is, I'd love it if OS 4 can tether with Telecom, without jailbreaking.

A lot of website I go to require a browser plug-in that the iPhone does not have/accept, I'm a bit over seeing that so I would like that supported. The 3GS has more than enough processing power to handle that

I know this sounds dumb but I would probably consider jailbreaking if the name of the jailbreaking tool wasn't so unprofessional and stupid

I really hope you're trolling.

Of course they're unprofessional, they are not for profit. Everyone except you seems to be able to ignore the author's choice of name and get on with it.

You're right.. that does sound dumb :P

Although.. I can kinda see where you're coming from..
In an every day conversation with Joe KnowsNothing Bloggs

Joe: wow, how did you get your iPhone to do that? Mine doesn't?!
Me: yeah, I used pwnage tool (or quickpwn, etc etc), and stuff like that.

It does sound a little.. odd...

But anyways.
