Does anyone know when we might see some ebook readers in NZ and what models we can expect?

You can buy and use a Kindle now if you know friends overseas - unfortunately you can't ship them directly to NZ.

I assume you mean a dedicated reader with the eInk technology?

If not, there are quite a few applications out there for various devices for reading (iPhone, Windows mobile, Windows, OS X etc)

Personally I'm holding out for an eInk device ... until then I'm happy for trees to be slaughtered for my reading pleasure ...

I bought an eInk reader device from Expansys in Hong Kong:

You can also buy them from DA Direct in Oz (they will happily ship to NZ customers):

An eInk screen is definitely the way to go. One charge of the battery lasts for over 200 page turns in our experience, and the device is extremely light; you don't even know you're carrying it.
