Regarding the July release date for the iPad in NZ, does that mean that I will be able to walk into a VF or Telecom store sometime in July and buy one on the spot?

I know I can buy one now from overseas now but frankly I can wait, I'm just worried about VF or Telecom running out of stock at launch.

Quick reality check here: Currently you cannot even walk into Apple Stores in the US and get a (3G) iPad on the spot. They are all sold out, and ONLY available with a prior booking at a store, or through the Apple Store online with a 3-4 week wait. The assumption that New Zealand will get sufficient stock, while the US, Germany, Australia, etc. are hurting for units, is quite speculative...

Well mine will be on the way from Aussie as soon as new stock arrives this week. (Wed or Thurs)
Most places do have some stock but seems to be the higher capacity or the 3g which I can't justify!
Excited anyways, iPads are AWESOME!

I think we all know that apple always makes it seem like stocks are limited to create a buzz, whether or not that's fact it another issue.

It'd be interesting to know how many people are forced into an impulse purchase of a more expensive higher-spec model because they're scared of missing out altogether, I remember in the line for the iphone 3g I was so worried I'd already decided I could go for the more expensive one if I had to lol

corksta: Yeah that's always an option! The system accepted my Apple ID and I was one click away from reserving my iPad for pick-up at the San Francisco store! I've read about people from other countries also having no problem placing an order.

So, just need to know how many people are keen to see how viable it will be!

I'd be keen thanks

Did you buy from Oz? Do they ship to NZ?

Secondly anyone know if the 3G versions are carrier locked, so if I got a telstra one from Oz, would I be able to connect to telecom XT?

i preordered it online when it was announced. i got delivered to my sister in sydney, who has now posted it to me.

i dont think australian ipad 3g's are carrier locked. i think its because its available from the apple store over there, as well as resellers like jb hifi, dick smith, harvey norman etc...

How are you ordering this. I suppose I need to find some long lost relatives in aussie to sort one out for me.
Has anyone been hit for GST/duty while importing these?

to be honest I bought it off trademe, cost me an additional $250 but we'll see if it's worth it when it arrives. After having every iPhone model I'm sure it wont disappoint.
