How are you ordering this. I suppose I need to find some long lost relatives in aussie to sort one out for me.
Has anyone been hit for GST/duty while importing these?

Yess! My (now favourite) Aussie relative rushed in to buy mine today as soon as stock at DSE was replenished. Now to get it here in 1 piece!
Excited!

Was your one sent in the post and you were charged GST that way, or were you bringing one into the country through the airport?

umm mine was sent thru australian post. i really didnt want to argue as they held it during the long weekend without telling me, so i just rocked up today and paid whatever they told me to. haha.

just a question, shud i have complained? my sister declared it as $100.00 value, but they told me that doesnt matter, they know what the product is :S

anyways, been playing with the ipad for a couple of hours now, its AWESOME!! my iphone feels so small now...

Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it. It's subject to 12.5% GST, and if they want you to pay, you have to pay, simple as that. As they said, you could put whatever price on the declaration, but if they know what it is you're still out of luck!

Glad you're enjoying it though, looking forward to getting one myself.

Come on now.. $100 isn't realistic. Maybe if it were 500-800 they might have charged less, but $100 is pretty stupid price to put tbh.

This is becoming silly. Of course you are required to pay GST upon entry, same as in any store in NZ when you buy anything. Participating in an arrangement where you under-value an item to save GST can easily add penalties and confiscation of the product, so if you buy an item overseas, the local GST is part of the purchase cost. It's as simple as that.

it arrived at the international mail centre, and then DX picked it up. i then get a letter from DX saying that they cannot send me the parcel until i contact customs. i did, they told me that the package is an ipad and therefore there is unpaid gst, i was like sweet whatever ( i couldnt care less, i just wanted my ipad) so i went to the customs office on anzac street and paid my taxes :)
after that, called up DX, checked with them that everything is sweet, it was, so i went and picked it up from their place near the airport.

simple and easy
