jared342: I visited a friend today who manages a DSE store. I can confirm with my OWN EYES, there is NOT a limited supply. In fact, quite the opposite! I can not eleborate further.

So you saw 100,000 phones stacked up in the corner of the storeroom?

I call BS
IMO i am doubting that DSE will stock at all on day 1, and if they do stock it i would be extremly supprised if they have already received stock.

But .. i've been wrong before.

I smell a conspiracy. I bet they were hiPhones from China and they were stacked 3-high in the corner of that chap's lounge!

Can you at least confirm that DSE would be an appropriate place to visit on Friday for someone wanting an iPhone 4 purchased outright for use with pre-pay? :-)

Sorry, no idea. Did not ask. Was not supposed to see what I saw. Personally, I am just going to order through Apple Store.

Like I said, I only know what I saw, but would only be speculating if they were going to be available on Day 1, or available without VF contract. I didn't ask. I don't want my mate to lose his job. Paranoia reigns. From what I understand from other sources, MagnumMac - buy outright on Day 1 - not tons of stock, but not 'limited'. Best bet - apple store.

UPDATE:  Personally I'm going to wait until this time next week to see if there are any major stuffups with sims, settings, video calling, carrier settings etc.  Should be plenty of good reports in 7-days time.  I'm weary of spending $1279 on a peice of tech that has so many unknowns. Is that price something else you know but 'don't know' or just your best guess?

But the Apple press release said 'from $1099', which by your theory should be 1299, not 1279.
