This is a quote from the vodafone forums from one of their posters "And now this topic is closed as advised by Paul Vodafone will post INFO when Vodafone are allowed to"

TBH I don't know what the believe, EVERY other country has pricing and plans already released yet we don't it seems a bit fishy to me

Haha, it's obvious that Vodafone are just trying to make a powerplay over Telecom. Apple has announced their pricing. Nothing stopping Vodafone from doing so as well.

Hell, more and more I am thinking about moving over to Telecom, the only thing that I need to see is their data plans

Apple MAY be restricting info on the handset, but in terms or calling plans etc i would say that is vfones call.

Handsomedan: But what you are  missing here, Mikey is that for Vodafone, this is a bad look...for Apple, it's business as usual.

Voda might sell plenty of handsets, but the number of people who were either loyal VF customers or were sitting on the fence may well choose to go to the competition with their shiny new toy.

If VFNZ had been more courteous and forthcoming, I doubt that the level of frustration would have been so high and I'd imagine more would be contemplating staying with them.

Definately. I was a loyal Vodafone customer for many years, since the Bell South days, back when caller ID was an optional extra, and texting was $10/mth and 10c per text after that...

Vodafone needs to learn that customer service HAS to be #1 and should go to any reasonable length to maintain customer satisfaction. This whole silence thing greatly mirrors EXACTLY what they did to me 2-3 years ago.

A burnt customer is a huge liability, burning me has lost them my parents, brother, sister, 2 friends and girlfriend as customers also. Piss off 1, lost 8.

What about if Apple have done a deal with both Telecom AND Vodafone, and they both know it. They are both going to launch on Friday - but waiting until the other blinks first to reveal plans?

Thing is - if Telecom announce their plans first, Vodafone will then announce their pricing as equal or cheaper than Telecom. This means Vodafone keep most of their customers.

If Vodafone announce their plans first, Telecom can still make an announcement with better pricing. Even if they miss the launch day, if the offer is good enough they may even convince people to break their contract... that's the way the appear to be playing it.

I think they both have a bad strategy. If Telecom just announced a decent plan now then people might consider leaving Vodafone anyway.

Handsomedan: The whole iPhone Launch thing has been very poorly handled by VFNZ, from a PR point of view.

Yes, there's some excitement about the upcoming product, but there's also a large groundswell of resentment which could ultimately end up hurting them immensely.

Then you dont understand PR or marketing. Look through the comments, the people are keen, the device will sell regardless, and maybe sell more as the desparate geeks, rush out and buy it as soon as its out..

Honestly how many people were going to buy one, but now wont after the way its been handled? I will hazard a guess .. ZERO..

Forth coming with what? confidential NDA agreements? Apple hasnt released any details on their website, yet VFNZ are meant to release the info?

What other info can Apple release? They confirmed the release date, they confirmed the price, they confirmed the retailers (vodafone decides who else sells them I believe) - i.e. their retailers first mobile etc

Regardless apple has like nothing left to release

Well I'll be buying one on the Online Store tomorrow and then getting an XT micro-sim - any idea what time the Online Store will go live with purchases? Midnight tonight or something more like 8am/9am tomorrow morning?

And do you get a free bumper at the time of purchase or is it something you have to download that app and apply for?

UrbanGrafix: Actually no. The best PR approach would be to drip information not hold it off when they know the release.
Saying you will do something i.e. release information in a public mail yet not releasing information is absoulty shocking, hell if I was the PR manager I would have at least released something or apologized for the fark up.

It only shocking if your life revolves around the devices, for the rest of the world, its not such a big deal..

UrbanGrafix:If you wanted to give no information i.e. about release date then thats fine as it will build hype as people will want to know when to buy it, but releasing the date and not releasing pricing info will hurt initial sales to the general public but thats not really quantifiable is it.

Do you have economic/marketing statistics to back up that bold claim? As you say its not quantifiable, and the fever everyone is working themselves into seems to dispute that.
If there was nothing but apathy towards it maybe, but the hype is still there.

Apple has announced their pricing via press release. They haven't updated the website as it is likely stock is allocated initially to Vodafone - whom are deciding not to release the pricing.

As has been pointed out previously, Apple NZ has released a press release with pricing info of the 16GB iphone, and overseas carriers have released plans and pricing info.

Whatever pal, everyone dances to Apple's tune, RRP, date, release schedules, profit share...
