I can confirm that the other cut XT SIM does not drain the battery like the first one. The one that did drain the battery didn't look new to me as there were wear strips on the gold contacts.
One of the other forums discussing battery draining mentioned that older SIM's can require more power to run them which would lead to more drain. I'm not sure about this. Another mentioned the gold contacts could be grounding on something.
