michaelmurfy: Apple operate like this:
1) Build up a army of bots, also known as "Fanboys"
2) Release a new product, that's only marginally better than the last, and then the Fanboys swarm in millions to buy the new product.
3) Release BETTER product the next year.
4) *Loop*

It seems the OP is in that endless loop, there's other "better" phones out there.

Lol what a stupid business plan.

You have to admit though, in Apple's case it's sort of true.?

I think it's true for most companies. The only thing they tend to milk are their iPods I find. As I always end up saying though, no one actually has to buy Apple products... Buy your Asus laptop for less if you want. No one is going to care.

motorwayne: My 3GS running iOS4 runs fine. Gimme a break, all the doom sayers are just dreaming.

Who was ever talking about the 3GS?????

Its 3g users like myself who were left with a total POS when we upgraded to iOS4 which was pushed by Apple.

Luckily, like the masses of annoyed 3G users, I went back to 3.1.3 and now its usable again.

Pass the koolaid.

How did you do that? Just reset your phone to factory install and then sync?

If only it was that simple (nothing from apple.con is that simpleTongue out)

I had to do this......

Also note its lots of fun running libusb and discovering it disables all your usb unless you run it in xp compatibilty mode!!!!
If like me you were unaware you need to paw helplessly at your now uncontrollable computer with no mouse or keyboard, hard reboot by holding the power key and killing windows and chooisng last known good configuration from the safe boot menu.

This will load the original usb drivers and then you can rerun libusb in xp mode.

Pre-Requirements

  • Original Firmware OS 3.1.3 for restoring

  • iTunes 9.1

  • iRecovery 1.3 + LibUSB – download link

Step by Step Downgrading from OS 4.0 to OS 3.1.3

  • Download and extract iRecovery to the desktop

  • Install Libusb to the desktop filename : libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.1.exe

  • Connect your iPhone via USB and enter in DFU mode by holding down power and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds

  • Manually load iPhone OS 3.1.3 firmware file by doing Shift + Restore and selecting the file

  • During the recovery iTunes will show error, ignore it

  • Close iTunes and run the following commands in console

cd Desktop

iRecovery.exe-s

setenv atuo-boot true

saveenv

fsboot

exit

  • Last step : Disconnect from computer and restart your iPhone normally

Congrats you have successfully downgraded from OS 4.0 to OS 3.1.3

just using a Motorola loan phone with Android 2.1.

Feels (OP that is) like a toy to use.

Reaches for security pillow.

NonprayingMantis: the performance was so bad on one of their products that it convinced you to buy another product from them?

makes perfect sense.

Was thinking the same thing. Must be the Apple "Reality Distortion Zone" operating.

I just bought a better phone.

I had a perfectly usable iPod Touch on v3.1.2 (jailbroken)...and it was customised the way I liked it and I could multi-task and do other cool stuff.

Then the Reality Distortion Zone sucked me and I 'upgraded' it to iOS4.

Multi-tasking: Gone.
Custom UI: Gone.

All I got was.....folders and a noticeably slower iPod Touch.

BFD.

I waited a bit and used the jailbreakme PDF exploit to jailbreak iOS4.

Now I have all the cool stuff I had before.

But is it true that the next upgrade detects a jailbreak and cuts me off from the Apple Store?

If it is....maybe I should just do it and throw the Apple Brick in the rubbish. Getting tired of this crap.

Might be more amusing to put 7.5kv through it like I did with my first generation iPod touch.

Defines this thread?perfectly.

Ha ha what a funny cartoon. Looked good on my iPad...

Yeah but it'll look even better on next year's one!!!1

Ha.? I'm definitely no Apple fanboy, but I'm glad I purchased my iPad as it fills a want in my life.? But I do have to say that all this Apple bashing is as equally pathetic as the Apple fanatics.

And I realise the comment above was a joke, but it is a common theme?from Apple bashers.? All technology has a shelf life, and new models of things are being brought out constantly.? Hell the Sony LCD TV I purchased five years ago has been superceded many times over.? That is just a fact of life for all technology, not just Apple products.? Regardless of their rate of change.

I think I've just created a new category.? A non Apple fanboy who is bashing the bashers!

Thats the unfortunate thing Satch - the your in the deep stages of Fanboyism - like any other addiction, your in complete denial...

Really before anyone can help you?(and yes you need help), you need to firstly admit that you've got a problem, and come out and admit that your a fanboy...

All the signs are there, the 3GS, the iPad, the girdfriends iPhone, and you willing to go to unreasonable steps of breaking contracts to get yourself an iPhone 4 at the expense of your girlfriend.? Everyone else can see the signs... You just need to take the final steps and look at yourself...

I know its not easy to admit being a fanboy... But your not alone, and there are plenty of places that can help... Just pickup the phone now, you know you want to, dial the number 0800 FANBOY...

They will help, as they have helped many other fanboys like you.? Your no longer alone, society has changed and is beginning to see fanboyism for the serious problem that it is.

You just have to take the first step and admit you need help... pick up the phone, make that step...

Ha ha, was wondering how long it was going to take you to pick up on this thread.

BTW, I dialed that number and got your answer phone...

Oh and I wouldn't be breaking any contracts to get a iPhone 4. I'm actually considering getting the iPhone 4 on subsidy, selling it for a profit, selling my 3GS, and getting an HTC Desire...

Now answer my email about that SSD would you please...
