Trying to send files between iphone4 and a nokia. The iPhone says it's not supported WTF??

I have done some googling and some people say it's only activated for headsets. Is this correct?

Currently charging a Nokia BH-105 headset to test it is actually working.

Ok, works ok with a Bluetooth car kit so works ok. Seems it's true and works only for audio. No great drama.

Yes its a pain when you have a picture on your phone and you want to give it to an iPhone user.

Hopefully they will add it at some point ( that and image stabilizer for the video camera).

C'mon Zolly! Apple don't *allow* casual data transfer.....You need to use iTunes to get stuff off and on the iPhone. That's Android country.

There are apps that let you create a Webdav server and you can put files there and other can access them, but you can't put anything there via your iPhone....You'd have to copy them in from the PC......

This is why I didn't buy an iPhone. You aren't free to do what you want.

It's not there by design. They won't be adding it.

They are on their 4th iPhone model now and people have been asking for the since iPhone 2G.

Won't happen.

There are a couple free apps that allow transfer of photos via bluetooth between i-devices. If you need to send someone else a file you still have a couple of options. You could just email it ofcourse, assuming the Nokia can receive email, but there are also numerous web based file sharing apps that would provide the same functionality quickly, and without the need for iTunes. DropBox is a good example, also free.

Downloaded the 'bump' app for free.

I'm not too worried about bluetooth. Just was trying to check it worked on my new phone and couldn't work out why it wasn't. Works ok with both my bluetooth headsets, so not an issue for me.

File sharing is taboo in Appleland.

I discovered this shortlay after getting my iPhone 6 or so months ago.

I can live with it, but it's annoying.

You can MMS a picture, but you can't send it via bluetooth or wifi...

Just a bit odd, if you ask me. But this IS Appleland.

Build a bridge Dan... ;-)

Access to the file system is not likely to happen. However, you can upload files to DropBox and email a link to whoever you like, all from your iDevice. Plenty of other ways to skin this particular cat if you need to.

Yeah, as I mentioned for me it's not an issue (read: I don't care). Was just wanting to confirm that only audio devices will pair with the iphone.

Don't want to get some war going between the Apple Fanboys and the Apple Haters. :-)

I was looking at getting one of these Sony Bluetooth adapters for my Iphone 4.
http://www.sony.co.nz/product/drc-bt30

It looks good as it has a simple playback controller on it, forward, back, pause, vol etc AND you can plug your own headphones into them.

They use Bluetooth ver 2.1. Would they work with iphone 4?

not going to happen - ever. unless you jailbreak and wriggle your way to access the bluetooth stack. more effort than its worth.

apple deems bluetooth sharing etc a potential security risk (the gen 1 models were even worse).

i believe reading an explanation from the apple forums was "there is the email functionality if you need to share a photo to someone".

They may add it, we have been waiting for Next Track and Previous Track AVRCP which was finally added in 4.1. So it may be that they are too lazy to have implemented OBEX.

They can prevent sharing of DRM files if needed, so I can't see any reason other than laziness.

Image stabilization on video would be good. I mean they have a six axis accelerometer / gyro so it should be allow some pretty good stabilization.

Down the track another cool addition would be built in FM transmitter.. though it would annoy the other manufacturers of accessories no end. :) Wonder if the board currently has a low-power fm chip on it.

If its like the one in a nokia N97, dont bother.

Wont work with a charger plugged in, so useless in a car.

Wont transmit to a car stereo and go tuned and stereo unless held out the window by the antenna. Home stereo gets about 2m to the indoor FM antenna best case, using the outside one there is no trace of it. Even my junk itrip will get enough signal to the stereo when the outdoor antenna is connected.

Well, it would if I sat it ONTOP of the RG6 going to the stereo.

Best that it can do with the RDS is show NOKIA as the PS

If you plug in a charger that is not connected to anything so it doesnt know it has a charger plugged in then it gets better range, but other than that, no, an FM transmitter like the nokia has is about as useless as they come.
