ZollyMonsta: I've just started using it.

Both me and my called on Cable... using WiFi.. the call starts out good but gradually quallity drops to 'poor' and theres a lot of breakup..

Rather annoying.

clarity of the audio is astounding! Plus, can't wait for the SMS feature to be added (I hope it's free).

No doubt somewhere down the line there will be advertising added or cost to call.. I can't see a free model lasting forever!

1. about the quality - are you using it on 3G or WiFi?  3G networks might be the cause for bad connection when using Viber, so you might want to try it when both sides are connected to a high-speed WiFi network.

2. SMS feature will be absolutely free as well.

About ads or costs,
I’d like to reiterate the five commitments we made when we launched the company:
1. The Viber software will always be free.
2. Viber for iPhone (and soon Viber for Android) will never display any ads.
3. Viber to Viber calls will always be free.
4. Viber to Viber text messages (coming soon) will always be free.
5. We will never sell, rent or in any other way abuse your personal information.

So why is Viber free?
For now, Viber's focus is on adding platforms, adding features (such as text messages) and improving overall system performance. At the same time, we are working on additional future premium services that will generate revenues. The basic Viber service - Viber to Viber phone calls, and soon text messages - will ALWAYS be free.

Both myself and the person I was calling (my wife) were connected via wifi, connected over a cable modem.

Tried again tonight sitting on the couch next to each other (same wifi access point) and suffered with "poor" messages coming up.

Glad to hear about your advertising policies. We will ve using the SMS feature since we have plenty of data (3gb of 3G data) but only have 300 sms' as part of our mobile plan.

Removed from my iPhone today. Have found it to not be relaible yet for day to day use.
Even with both parties on wifi there has been calls not pit through, or calls so bad that it's pointless trying to continue the call.

Will give it another chance once it's more stable.

There was a technical issue with Viber 2.0. we fixed it and now the new Viber 2.0.1 should run smoothly.

Hi Mr. Viber - for iPad/iPod touch, is there any way to register an account with NO mobile number? Or must all users have an active mobile number? Can we register by email for example?

Every Viber account must be assigned with a real phone number (unfortunately not email).
However, you can always simply assign some phone number to your iPad or iPod-Touch and make it a totally usable 'Viber phone'.

Here are the instructions:

1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone's number, then confirm.
3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you're good to go.

* this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

Thank you - are you planning on having an email or account registration ability in the future for iPod Touch/iPad users? So that it can stand alone if there is no mobile number available?

I am a first day Viber user (I waited until the SMS update before installing).

Here is my feedback to you:

GREAT!!!!!!

Had some problems with 3G calling, but overall calls are of very acceptable quality even when it is "orange" for the call quality. But often we got "red" and dropped the call completely.

SMS is wonderful!

I like it that you push notify us when our friends have joined Viber! That's very cool :)

I LOVE your app. I think it's one of the best Apps I've ever installed into my iPhone.

I look forward to it getting even better!!

THANK YOU.

Ahmed,
Thank you so much for your kind words!  We're excited to see so many people are enjoying our application.

For now there is no current plan to allow registering by email. The whole point of Viber is essentially to 'replace' your cellular identity and allow your friends to easily know what your 'account' number is.
At this stage the only way for you to use Viber on iPod/iPad is to find an old cell number (or a friend's, for that matter) and assign it to your iPad/iPod.

Ok that's good to know.

One of the best features of Viber is that the interface "borrows" from the native Apple phone and SMS apps so everyone knows immediately how to call/SMS. I like that!

An URGENT feature I would like to see is: if I call someone that is "offline" (ie. No Internet access) the Viber phone "rings" with no indication that the receiver is offline. It would be great to know of a contact is online/offline.

But yes very very happy still :) My Android friends are jealous! Come quickly Viber Android ;)

Is there anyway to change the ring/text tone?

@Ahmed

There already is an indication to whether or not the side you are ringing is online or not - when you place a call it either says "Connecting" or "Ringing".  "Ringing" means the other side's Viber is ACTUALLY ringing, thus he/she is online.  If it doesn't "Ring", then the call hasn't gotten through.

@Jarrod

At this stage there is no option to change the ringtone, but we plan to implement this as a new feature in the coming future.

Hi Mr/Ms Viber :)

iPhone 4 iOS 4.3 calling iPhone 3GS iOS 4.3.

Both are not jailbroken. Viber runs in background and push notifications enabled for Viber.

iPhone 4 calls iPhone 3GS that is in Airplane mode. It says "calling" and I can hear a "ringing sound". I now turn the iPhone 3GS off the Airplane mode. The 3GS now rings but the iPhone 4 still says "Calling".

iPhone 4 makes new call to 3GS that has internet service. It rings on both sides but says "Calling" on the iPhone 4.

So I am not seeing any difference of the receiving 3GS has got internet service or not? It always says "Calling" and gives me ringing sounds either way?

Thanks :)

Dear Viber - New SMS is great, especially texting daughter in Oz. Assume 160 character limit still applies and if so a character count, as with standard texting on iphone4, would be very helpful feature.

Thanks
