cafeg: Lets see, what else to we lineup for:

Fast food,
Movie Tickets,
Concerts,
Petrol,
So I guess we are all sad individuals,

But the probably the biggest reason geeks lineup for Ipads and iphones is to get them now instead of waiting 5 to 6 weeks or longer on order from the apple online store.

So, just thinking on it,
the reason why I lined up was because I wanted one now not in 6 weeks :-)

People also lined up for the sony playstation, psp and xboxes, when they are released, sometimes at midnight. But in most of those cases I am sure that the people in line would have left happy that they had ended up getting the product. The problem with the apple one, is many people left disappointed, as apple didn't provide anywhere enough product for the demand at the time. I guess this was planned, otherwise someone made a huge error and miscalculation on the demand. It would have been good for them to actually say that there was only going to be a very limited stock initially.

What I don't get is that people were lining up to buy them without even trying one out first. Not trying to jump on the bandwagon just saying what I would do. Wait till they have been around a while and see what they are like.

Because they work in exactly the same way as the ipad one, apart from the camera, so people knew exactly what they were getting.

Yes, Dad.

Seriously, why are people here so keen to judge others (not so much you, mattRSK, but others earlier in the thread)? People do what they want to do because THEY want to do it. I didn't line up as I can handle the wait so ordered mine online on Friday morning when I woke up, but I think it's great that there are people so excited about something that they lined up for it.

We all do things to make ourselves happy and to get excited about - those that don't are the sad ones. Those that try to ridicule anyone for trying to have completely harmless fun should quite probably think about getting out a bit more themselves and perhaps look at injecting a little more excitement in their own lives.

You leave the iPad lovers alone and they will in turn not comment on your excessive WoW playing and Mountain Dew drinking habits.

Each to their own...

The ipad2 is my first apple product, so I thought I would go all out and queue. The experience of talking to hn staff and apple fans made the day a really enjoyable one.
Add to that I am now using this fantastic device, makes it well worth the effort.

So no, I am not sad.

Yes, the hype of being in the queue waiting and talking to the others, then when they start selling and wondering if you are actually going to get one was great !!
Then getting it home and unpacking and playing with it is something I wouldn't miss for the world..
This was also my first lineup for a product and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think no-one really needed to see what they are like because we/they all knew what it's like. I had not owned an iPad before but had seen and used one and I knew the new one was better than the old one, so no need to test-drive.

It not the sort of product that you test and then decide yes or no - you know whether you need or want it before it arrives.

Ummm, lining up for a concert /sports event is a little different. These have deadlines or you will miss the event forever.

Ipad 2 has no such deadline (at least until the ipad 3 comes out ha ha).

People get their thrills in different ways, but I don't get this one.

I visited an apple store in the US recently, the place was ridiculous, the hunger for apple devices is insatiable.

Applemania is the new 'religion'.

+1 . people are indeed 10x more crazy in US. stores always seem to be full for no reason. Noticed it in a number of cities and another thing is , the attitude of people shopping there is more like being in a borders store.

I would say 3/4th of the people are there just for the experience, playing around, trying, learning. Apple does make some good stuff, but i dont think i can jump ships when it comes to computers.

I didn't even want one, but I ended up in the Yoobee queue for about 2 and a half hours and got an iPad 2 32GB 3G for my wife who was super keen but also home sick. Also scored a micro-SIM with 12GB data that 2deg were handing out to people in the queue.

I had low expectations for practical applications of the device, but after she'd loaded it up with things like Skype, Cooking Mama and DinerDash, I had a go and before I knew it, I had it fully sync'd up with my e-mail, contacts and calendar. I run a Zimbra server and it's talking to the iPad via IMAP, CardDAV and CalDAV.

I was genuinely surprised it could do this, and out of the box, too.

It even got the designated colours of the various calendars right. Safari works pretty well with Eventum (an open source web based job tracker), so before I knew it I was using it for work yesterday, quite a bit easier to carry around than my laptop.

Shock horror, it now has me actually considering getting an iPhone to replace my disappointing Nokia N97.

Yes, Dad.

Yeah I just reread my post, I retract. Not what I wanted to say or sound like. Must of been a bad day. As you were.
