not quite, no widgets/live tiles... would be nice to have a to do list/calendar displayed on home screen. Hopefully the next iPhone comes with a bigger screen to handle this

Agreed. I imagine and expect that Apple needs to address this. While they presumaby wish to keep the clean and uniform interface (as do I) but it would be good to have the capbility to add widgets etc, in perhaps an "extra" Home screen or screens. This customisation is popular on Android, so by going down that track as an option is a good choice. Same for tiles. Maybe the main home screen is the Apple way, and the alternative screens can be used as an alternative, or addon

Even though they say the 3GS will get the iOS 5 update, I bet that the 3GS won't get all the cool new features that I will actually want and Apple's excuse will be "The hardware just isn't up to it" when it actually is.

icloud looks amazing, taking a photo and automatically been pushed to the cloud, downloading firmware updates directly to the phone without hooking up to a computer (i hardly update because of this).

but WP7 has more exciting features i think, the tiles (kinda ugly, but really powerful), contact group (twitter, facebook, email, sms all under one "chat stream"). one button click to take photo if phone is locked or not (i think next version of iphone will have a button for this).

im a macfanboy, some things are really cool, but i was hoping for more. but icloud looks awesome

iMessage - Isn't it just to make ipod/ipad kind of more like a phone (since you can't use a 3G iPad as a phone - excluding skype etc).  You are in effect just sending an email and as such have to have a data connection.

The main thing that strikes me about iOS5 is its push towards iCloud.  Cloud computing is a great concept when there is ubiquitous access to low cost or free data (3G or wifi).  Not necessarily the case in NZ.

At a quick glance the camera access is the only thing that even my previous Android phone couldn't do.

Notification centre, iMessage, integrated twitter, PC free updating, Cloud computing.... all done before.  The benefit of the iOS though is configuration will be simple, the interface uniform and its operation smooth.

edit: added comment about NZ data.

Interesting information coming out about imessage (Appleinsider)

It is apparently built on their open-sourced jabber protocol xmpp (along with Facetime and the push server mechanism).

I like that you have a fall back in that non-ios users get an sms ios users get an im.

I wonder if it will get google integration as I think GTalk works on the same platform...
