Hey guys,

I've got the contacts issue where by my text messages cant see my phone book.

So far I have...

rolled back to 4.3.5 clean then upgrade to b5.7. Then setup as new phone. Then added exchanged contacts FAIL.

setup b5.7 from a back of when I was at 4.3.5 working and turned off icloud. FAIL

Clean 4.3.5 to clean b5.7 no exchange but using icloud contacts FAIL

Maybe a few other options to try. Not sure why mine has broken and others havnt. Cant find the difference..

there is a way around this

http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/2011/all/having-issues-with-your-apn-settings-under-ios-5-beta-7-heres-a-work-around/

but this should not happen if this will be in the final version.

Everyone I know on beta 7 has this issue.

You text messges do not show who the sender is from your contacts as the same for phone calls also. Alot of people also reported this issue on the iphonewzealand blog.

Seems like a silly query or someone missed a simple piece of code.

Hey guys,

After some mucking about we have identified that this is a Telecom issue somehow. When using a 2degree Sim or VF we don't get this issue and it seems to be the way the phone or sim reads the number. With the Telecom Sim it doesn't recognise the spaces of the caller stored on the phone.

So we need to bring it to there attention of someone from Gen-i or Telecom. I'm assuming they would care? No other country in the Apple Dev forum seems to have this issue.

Further to add. When we put in the 2degrees sim all the contacts in the messages app now show correctly.. take it out and put the xt sim in and its breaks again.

I've got a new microsim also.

iPhone 4, iOS5 b7, XT, same issue.
Haven't got another microsim to try, but assume I have same cause as you and others.

I also looked everywhere and didn't find any iOS5 specific cases of the same thing, (mainly stuff from USA circa 2009).

If anyone finds a fix for this on XT, please post back here.

A contact at Gen-i tells me that this bug is not known (at least not widely enough to be common knowledge).

I'm using a LG P500h Android for now. Nice phone for couple hundy but not a patch on the iPhone!

(Important to me to know exactly which calls I'm answering, and when).

You can roll back to 4.3.5 via dfu mode.

I'm not sure if a bug was rasied with apple or not I'll follow up.

Might be worth chasing gen-i also as I doubt apple will make a change for a telco that is an official supplier?

Have pinged Telecom on Twitter re: this thread (twice).

They are pretty big on iPhones and on being 'The' Smartphone Network, so hopefully they get it sorted in time.

I have no concerns about it while its in beta, but if problem exists when iOS5 is released, then, man, sux to be Telecom at that point.
