Issue has also been reported with other developers using overseas carriers.  A bug via bugtracker has been reported to Apple.

That's great news, bodes well for a fix in time for the release.

Thanks!

By the way, if you have had iMessage contact with someone, their name will match up...

I've emailed my contact at gen-i who has escalated it. But imagine Oct 12th and every bodies contacts are screwed.... general public would have no idea what's wrong.

Other carriers are experiencing the same issues so its not just telecom nz.

I updated the bug tracker early this morning.  That is all I can do at this stage.
Will advise if any changes.

I got a reply on a bug tracker issue i had opened.

"After further investigation it has been determined that this is a known issue, which is currently being investigated by engineering.  This issue has been filed in our bug database under the original Bug ID"

Are you in telecom? If so what version sim are you using?

I should really have read the whole topic before posting. Im on Vodafone, but if I find a Telecom sim card somewhere, I'll let you know.

But it's worth noting, I havent had these types of issues since 1.1.x and 2.x.

Does anyone know if its happening with 2degrees sim cards too? I have one here I can try.

The problem started with 5 Beta 7 I think  and has continued with 5 Beta GM.

It has something to do with New 3G networks (I have been told)  (i.e. Telecom) and the way they send the calling number to the Phone (the formatting) . I believe the iPhone can't match it to a number stored on the phone (associated with a name)  so it just shows the number.

i.e. Vodafone/2Degrees send as "021xxxxxx" and telecom send as "021 xxxxxx" (I don't know exactly) and the iPhone can't determine 021 xxxxxx is the same as 021xxxxxx as stored on the phone.

Or maybe (I may be completely wrong) someone who really knows the reason can comment :-)

Yah this sounds similar to the problems in 1.1.x

I had to mod a file to accept the formatting when on Vodafone as my carrier.. Might be different though. Will see if I can find my xt sim
