Thanks for this! Have ordered 32Gb Black one. Had to get someone else to order it for me - what date have they said we're likely to receive the order?
Teeps: For you guys who have ordered today, is this your first iPhone or are you upgrading from a previous iPhone?
I feel a bit guilty in saying I've had one of each model from the launch of the original iPhone. Even though the previous model has been great the upgrades get me wanting every time! Never regretted my decision either :-)

gadgetmagpie: I decided to try a high end Android in August last year (HTC Desire) and there are definitely things I like about it better than my previous iPhone 3G, but the prospect of a decent camera on the 4S (amongst other things) made me upgrade and switch back to Apple. They have improved the OS so much since I left for Droid as well.
mkl:
Same here, although before each upgrade I found the resale value is quite high. So it only costs around $200-300 for the upgrades.
The way to think is - even if you don't upgrade your value of your phone is going to depreciate anyway. So if you skip a version instead of paying $300 to upgrade, you'll be paying $550-600 to upgrade since your phone will be 2 generations behind by then. From the prices you see on Trademe in the expired listings, this seems to hold true.
Second hand prices:
iPhone 4 ~ $700-750 (now 1 gen behind)
iPhone 3GS ~ $350-400 (now 2 gen behind)
So I find there is actually no reason not to upgrade.
