Took 5 attempts, failing at the final processing stage each time. First 4 were for a 32Gb. Took the failures as a sign and tried 64Gb and finally got it done.  Was hoping for a quicker shipping date after cancelling an order from the aussie store that was about to ship after waiting a week and a half. Still, very pleased to have been able to buy it in NZ.

Well, Apple's web server is definitely having the fight of its life, but I managed to get my order through for a black 32gb.

Took quite a few attempts but finally got an order placed for one black and one white 32GB.

Looking at my bank account though I have three $1 transactions so I hope I don't end up with six in total!

Maybe I'm lucky but it took me just that one single attempt to order a White 64GB plus a bumper case.

Behodar: Apple store has been updated with 4S.

http://store.apple.com/nz/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone/iphone4s

"Pre-order an iPhone 4S now and you'll receive it between 15/11 and 28/11. iPhone 4S will also be available for purchase in carrier stores starting 11/11."

Thanks for this! Have ordered 32Gb Black one. Had to get someone else to order it for me - what date have they said we're likely to receive the order?

For you guys who have ordered today, is this your first iPhone or are you upgrading from a previous iPhone?

I feel a bit guilty in saying I've had one of each model from the launch of the original iPhone. Even though the previous model has been great the upgrades get me wanting every time! Never regretted my decision either :-)

I decided to try a high end Android in August last year (HTC Desire) and there are definitely things I like about it better than my previous iPhone 3G, but the prospect of a decent camera on the 4S (amongst other things) made me upgrade and switch back to Apple. They have improved the OS so much since I left for Droid as well.

Same here, although before each upgrade I found the resale value is quite high. So it only costs around $200-300 for the upgrades.

The way to think is - even if you don't upgrade your value of your phone is going to depreciate anyway. So if you skip a version instead of paying $300 to upgrade, you'll be paying $550-600 to upgrade since your phone will be 2 generations behind by then. From the prices you see on Trademe in the expired listings, this seems to hold true.

Second hand prices:

iPhone 4 ~ $700-750 (now 1 gen behind)
iPhone 3GS ~ $350-400 (now 2 gen behind)

So I find there is actually no reason not to upgrade.

The gadget freak in me has me interested in Android but just to play with. I love messing around with things and how deep you can get into the system interests me, but I know I would always go back to my iPhone. Didn't stop me nearly pushing the buy button on the 2degrees website the other day though when I saw the Hauwei Ideos X3 for $199, I know it's not going to be the best Android phone but at that price it wouldn't be much to lose.

Youre maybe a little more sensible than me then. I like to keep my previous iPhone as a backup just in case anything happened to the new one, and by that point the version before that has dropped in value too much so I just end up keeping them. So I still have the complete history of iPhones. Maybe I should put them in a glass case! Don't think they'll be a collectors item though, way too many in circulation lol
