This will be a great upgrade over my 3GS. Hoping to pick one up retail on the day...

You guys think Yoobee will be stocking them from the 11th?

Yeah I'm a tad bit gutted, I knew the demand would be high but hoped that ordering on the same day should be OK to make the targeted delivery dates.. Should have ordered earlier but oh well!

I was in the YooBee Wellington store this afternoon checking out the iPhones and asked the staff there if they would be getting them on launch day, the sales guy wasn't too sure - He mentioned that they might get them (as in receive a shipment of stock for the day) they might not.. Depends on if the inventory shows up on their system too but they haven't had it entered as yet. He mentioned that with the last launch (iPhone 4) that Vodafone were the primary stockist at first and they didn't get any phones for about 2 months...

So I guess it's a possibility, they *might* have stock or they might not on launch day, but if you want a guaranteed stockist on 11.11.11 then it looks like it's best to go to Vodafone... Anyone feel like camping out?? Sealed

Eh? You have to signup on a new contract to get one from Vodafone Retail stores?

Not from Apple

I was meaning for Vodafone? Just had a look at the site and it doesn't appear to be available for PrePaid but does appear to be available on the 1-month term plans (the 3GS and 4 that is, nothing on the 4S just yet).

Also a few things:
  • Apple is yet to confirm which local resellers will have the phone.
  • It has increased the number of mobile operators selling its iPhones overseas, sparking speculation it could do the same here:
    • Telecom declined to comment on whether it would have the device.
    • 2degrees spokesman Michael Bouliane said it did not have immediate plans to offer the iPhone.

I expect Vodafone (and Telecom if they get it) to require contracts at first, after all theres no incentive for them not to. If you want one without contract at least we can do it direct from Apple right from the start this year.

Well then they just lost a sale, unless someone such as johnr can clarify.

I'm sure you'll agree that they'd prefer to sell them with a contract rather than sell you one and take the risk that you'll head off to another carrier. As I'm sure they won't have more iPhones than they have people wanting them at first they'll want to supply them to people taking contracts. Profit margin probably isn't great enough to just be happy with any sale. I could be wrong though, thats just the way I see it which is why I placed my order direct with Apple online.

I'm with them right now, mid-contract, and was looking to purchase it outright. Of course, to terminate the contract would cost me (aka. pay them) around $150 or so vs. the (very roughly) $30 or so I estimate they would make off selling me the phone. Like I said earlier in the thread the people at store we're clueless. They weren't even sure what time the store was opening!

A slightly different situation then, but again, as you have (most likely) already had a phone subsidised from them and aren't wanting to extend your contract theres no real incentive for Vodafone to sell you one ahead of a customer who's happy to take out a 2 year contract.

If you're happy to pay full price, why not order online from Apple and save yourself the hassle and uncertainty?
