It's ok, you don't need to be ashamed and pretend it's for a 'friend' ;-)

But..but... . Nah I like the iPhone, i'd just rather spend half the price on an Android. Don't particularly need an ultra high res screen & all the other details :p

Should put out a "wild west" alert at that store!      (Just joking, all good, they all are good, whatever ticks the boxes you like, thats the main thing.)

Thought about buying a 3G|S? It compares very well to upper-mid-range Android handsets, and the software library, support and accessory availability is far better.

Eh, would rather an Android handset at that price. I'd rather something that isn't out of date due to support being run out. I mean I like iOS, I also like Android. Don't what what I like more as I haven't had a chance to use both equally as much. There's pros and cons of both so yeah.. its hard to say really. WP7 is pretty awesome too tbh, the only "smartphone" I haven't liked it Symbian o__o.

Support hasn't ended if they're still selling it :)

Got my place in the queue in Welly. Told there are plenty available so will be getting mine this evening. Damn, now I wish I'd backed up my current iPhone. Guess I'm not going to be sleeping tonight ;-)

Thats exactly right. Its a 2007 phone, but it has iOS5 on it, the latest OS. And while the hardware is a strong part of a phone, the KEY part is the featureset in the OS. Thats what you USE. You don't see any other phones that are kept current, and the upside to having the 2007 phone is that you still get a brand new phone, and you save.

If I can upgrade my 2007 Accord with new interior and the new features, I'd do that

The 3G|S was released in 2009. Still a great handset though!

I'm partly the opposite. I'd be happy to get it tonight, then it would likely sit on a shelf for a day or two when I had the time to set the old and new one up!

Does it matter that you haven't backed the old one up?  Sync it and back it up when you get home, then you can move the sim to the new one, and restore the backup back in iTunes to the 4S. Done. Another Apple feature I like. Turned my iPad1 to a shop equivalent startup, and the iPad2 to what was on my iPad1 in little time at all.

Tks for the correction Munchkin! Yes, with smartphone models often being end of line in 6 months at times, it does stand the test of time.

We are being taken care of pretty well in Aickland at the Vodafone store. Lift Plus reps are here, coffee and hot chocolate and hot food from the promo girls.

My first time waiting for an Apple device. Got here at 10, because i had nothing better to do than sleep! Bigger, better, faster is always nice, though i found no reason to upgrade my original iPad. I find overall the Apple devices are more reliable than the Android devices we also support (though they do have their share of issues) for clients.

Have just been told the second half of the queue will miss out on 64gb models. Bugger, I was going to get one 'free' on the top plan. Mainly for keeping videos of the kids.

Interesting experience getting my phone. Wasted two hours of my life waiting in the Telecom Wellington queue.

I then heard there were handsets available at Vodafone so left my place in the queue to investigate seeing as I just wanted to purchase it outright.

The Telecom queue was just processing up to the mid thirties in terms of the line number after nearly two hours, with about 30 or so more people to go. I headed off to Vodafone and was in and out in about two minutes with my phone. Vodafone only had black units left in stock and of the 16Gb/32Gb varieties as far as I was aware which was fine for me. I just feel sorry for the people still waiting in the queue at Telecom to get their phones.

Interesting evening really - Oh well :)
