Hey all.

I have an iPod Touch that I bought 3 or 4 months ago.
Unfortunately, I dropped it (while I was running, it fell from my top shirt pocket).
Even though it was in a protective case, it sustained some damage.

There are two flickering horizontal lines that appear on the screen (although the screen is not physically damaged at all), and after the iPod has been on two or three minutes, the screen goes white: not totally, but enough that you can't see much. So I have to flick it on and off again, which normalizes it, but it won't stay like that for long again.

My question is: is it worth taking in for repair, and if so, where can I take it?
I know we don't have Apple Genius stores here in NZ.

Insurance? Have you tried plugging it into itunes and doing a diagnostic test?

Is it one of the $250 8GB ones? If it is it could be cheaper just to buy a new one.

I don't know how to do a test?  By insurance do you mean general house and contents etc? If so, then no..
And yes it is one of the $250 8G ones.

I would have just bought another one as you say, but I was made redundant the end of November, and I can't really afford to buy a new one right now.
I figured if it was able to be repaired for $100 or so, I'd rather try that first.

ps, as far as iTunes, the device still seems to function completely normally. It is just the display.

Not really cost effective to have it repaired, though you could try DIY by getting parts from iFixit.com and seeing what you can do.

I think they charge nearly $100 just to look at it, and if it needs a new screen another $200 at a guess, as uses the new retinas displays. Hate to say it, but it may not be economical to fix, unelss you can find somewhere on the internet with a solution. It is possible it may not be a major problem, but I think it is probably not looking good.
