JimmyC: Just wondering if your time included any retina optimised apps? There actually aren't that many out as yet. Standard apps will still look the same as iPad2, but I know folks in the US are geeking out about the quality of HD wallpapers they can now apply. It'll come down entirely to source material I'd say.

While the non retina apps still look the same, you will notice how fuzzy the graphics are in them.  They are like that in the iPad 1 & 2 anyway, but its more noticeable when you go from a retina app to a non retina app.

So it goes on sale tomorrow right? If I want to try and buy online, will apple.co.nz be selling it from midnight tonight?

dazzanz: Received my iPad from The Warehouse, I never received a tracking number though.

Count your self lucky you got what you ordered the next day.
I ordered a black ipad and recieved nothing but a phone call from the the warehouse.
They said they cannot supply me with a black one, and if I wanted it still, I would have to take a white one.
Then they said they couldn't ship it until Saturday, meaning that I wouldn't get it til atleast Monday next week :(

They offered either a freebie, but both are rubbish. The choice is either a VEON Radio Alarm Clock with Docking System or a Cygnett Armour Case. The clock is mean't to be valued at $150, but can't see that as the case is $70. To bad I don't like either.

Kind of sucks, looks like I will have to head to the stores and hope I can get one somewhere else.

Shame on the Warehouse, not being able to supply before the actual release day, worse still 5-6 days after the sale.

That's what I don't really get. Why would anyone want to order it from the Warehouse when they can't get it on launch day? Perhaps those out in rural areas of the country without a big box store may benefit, otherwise, there's no point.

I agree with the extra weight, can definitely feel it but I think its something I won't notice in a day or two. I think the screen is excellent though, the crispness of the text is great, especially after having a 4S and seeing the difference the extra pixels make.

I've concluded that Apple purposefully introduce each new generation with flaws.

It gives an incentive to buy the next model with the flaws fixed, yet the new model will have flaws or shortcomings leaving people salivating for the next gen.

The iPad 4 will fix the heat issues, the recharge time, and some say wifi is a bit slow on the ipad 3.   Yet, they will leave a poor front facing camera to be revolutionised in the ipad 5.

freitasm: Why would they be? Even if they open an hour later, they will still sell out anyway...

It certainly did not sell out in Australia. There are a ton of DSE stores with current stock.

Maybe NZ will not receive so much inventory though.

I'm looking for the top of the line model, i think the 32gb version will be the best seller . So I may get to snag a 64gb 4g model.

I am now thinking of waiting outside a store before it opens, which is something I never do, but likely will.

Taking into account, there are 6 different models, of either WiFi or 3G (who has 4G network anyway) 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB

Does anyone have a rough quess how many ipads of each model a small city store will have at either dick smith or noel lemmings today before they maybe sell out?

I ordered it because I was hoping to get it before release and it would save me lining up - I'm currently in Taranaki and I doubt the stores here have priority on stock. Thankfully I did receive it, that is a shame that A5X didn't get his though.

When pre orders for the iPhone 4S started back in November it appeared on the Apple.co.nz store at some funny time in the early afternoon. I suspect that they wanted to launch it at a random time that noone would have anticipated in order to avoid a sudden surge of web traffic that they wouldn't be able to handle. Unfortunately they were misguided, because their web server fell to its knees when I was trying to order mine shortly after they went on sale.

I disagree.  Yes, I am a fan of the iPhone and iPad, not a fanboy though. I feel that all platforms have plenty to offer, none are perfect.

Apple devices have the hype thing going on. Every release there is a rumour mill, always falls short as rumours create a perfect expectation which is never met. And from my limited Apple-fan time, there are the negatives after release. Some due to the rumour mill not coming true, others due to issues. The antenna-gate was an issue for sure, but your comment makes it sound as though every release is fraught with faults. While I dont frequent other posts that relate to other platforms, I have a gander every now and then to keep up. "Issues" there too. But as I feel with Apple, there are few real issues on any of the platforms, as in where every device has it.

Take this device. It had heat issues? No. It runs warmer than the previous. Why? It has a faster GPU, larger battery. Just like any upgraded PC it runs warmer. In this case, warmer than a cool running iPad1 or 2. Recharge time? Thats also no issue. The battery is much larger capacity. So it takes longer to charge. Wifi? Yes, Ive seen threads, also ones where it is great, Better than the iPad1. Are all iPad 3's slow at wifi? No.

If this was the first iPad, no issues.  I base my comments on subscribing to some groups where, apart from a lot of daily emails, I have read the experiences of users in the US and Europe. Here, I can read local users which will be interesting.

I haven't noticed the iPad being any warmer than the iPad 2 yet.
