I'm after a very cheap passively cooled PCI-E GPU, power consumption as low as possible. Just need it for a server where rendering power is not an issue.

Also, if anyone has a molex to 2x SATA power adaptor lead -or- a Corsair HX series SATA power cable, let me know.

For US$35 plus shipping, why not get a Sapphire Radeon HD5450? I bought one for a low profile Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop, it's a great bargain. The desktop only has a 240w PSU, so the card is certainly a good fit for low power.

I think I'm looking for a GeForce 210. Apparently the idle power draw is only 6w!

Athlonite:

Thanks, but I'm really after a fanless card, and that might me a little long also (could make wiring around the HDD cage tricky)

Sweet as just thought I'd make the offer and yes they are fairly long about 26cm if I remember rightly and 18W idle

I have a fanless 7600GS - GF 7600 GS 256MB DDR2 Dual DVI & TV Out (SVideo) by Pine Technology.

I used it for a while before swapping it out for something else.

The machine would occasionally fail to boot with that card, but the machine was doing exactly the same thing less often for other cards I used. The motherboard or power supply in that machine has since died and that may explain everything.

If it seems to be working ok after a month or so just credit for the postage + $10. If it is doubtful at all at any stage just bin it.

I've opted to use FreeNAS instead of Windows for this machine, and realised that FreeNAS can run headless so I can remove the GPU altogether after initial setup. Thus, I no longer need a low power GPU. Thanks for the offers anyway.

Good decision. IIRC windows also supports headless.

Edit: this guy has it sorted starting the installation on another machine and completing it on the target (no doubt a WAIK install is the actual correct way to do it tho)
