Need urgently in Auckland Garmin mini-usb car charger cable (charger could be dead - do no care)
I am after that mini USB plug only. Our charger is still working bit mini-usb plug disintegrated beyond repair. I will re-solder if I have either Garmin's plug with a 10 cm cable or dismountable mini-usb plug which has pins ##1, 4 & 5.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

The link below suggests to me that you can use any USB-Mini cable if you have or can get an appropriate sized resistor:
 http://pinoutsguide.com/GPS/garmin_nuvi_power_pinout.shtml

We have spare USB-Mini cables here in west Auckland that you could pick up if you do not have one to chop up, but might be cheaper to go to a local computer store rather than driving over here.

I thought I had a 5m USB Mini cable that might be useful for you so you could solder into the charger rather than have a mid-cable join, but can't seem to find it.  Might have given it away in a previous clearout of old unused cables.  They are available from our cable wholesaler still.

Also:  We have a couple of Dell Optiplex 755 and HP dc7700 SFF sized cases if you happen to want any more.  They are sitting in our junk pile and will stay there for another couple of months so no hurry if you did happen to want them.  We will be collecting a few more in the next few weeks.

Hi,
Thank you.
I will definitely take both cases. I will show you what I did with one of Optiplex ones - cut it, made new face plate, painted and gave it a completely new look and life with new guts inside :). It is now all black and I am experimenting with what labels will look cool on black.

As for mini USB - resistor 17.4Kohm (SMD type 24C) is molded inside the broken plug (plug beyond repair). I have hips of mini usb cables - quick dismantle of few including old PDA showed that pin #4 is cut off :-( - nothing to solder resistor to ...
Garmin Engineer who designed that solution will be remembered forever :-(

Suggest sell it on Trademe unless you are giving it away... I am just after small cable which someone perhaps has after their Garmin had died.

OK, Sorted - cut 4 donor mini-USB cables. In 3 - pin #4 was cut out or not present at all. In one 0.5 mm tail on pin 4 was enough to solder to it. All up and running. Know-how can do...
Use 17.4KOhm resistor between Pin #4 and GND. I used original one (SDM, marked 24C) from Garmin cable.

Housewife computerer: not particularly great at either.
And don't take me too seriously.

Well aware of that. e.g. take the lens from DVD writer and attach to iphone or similar cam and you have a macro camera. Saw it in action on other person's phone.
The issue is - I do not use modern phones (my mobile is ~10 y.o.).
But if one wants CD/DVD units from PCs to take apart for those lenses - I have plenty to give away...
